Celebrating cinema from the grindhouse to the arthouse and all that lies between.
A major pet peeve mine? Working a day. Then having a day off. Then working a day. And then having another day off. I can never actually relax under these circumstances. By the time I actually wind down on the day off, I start winding back up for work the next day. I get no real rest. It's the worst.

AI films. Snuff films. Propaganda films. Just about anything else is fine though. Love what you love.
name a film that's a red flag to love.

Don't feel too bad, Christopher Abbott. The stars of AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY still haven't seen a script yet either and it wrapped production over a year ago.
"X-Men" Star Hasn't Seen A Script Yet
Christopher Abbott hopes his time in Marvel’s “X-Men” will be better than his prior attempt at a Marvel film with 2024’s disastrous “Kraven the Hunter”. Appearing on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused...

I feel like anyone who is expecting Amazon MGM to announce the new Bond actor on James Bond Day tomorrow is just setting themselves up for major disappointment. I really wouldn't expect much more than some merchandise announcements, as well as further promotion of 007: FIRST LIGHT and KING ZERO.
Someone slap him again. The first one clearly wasn't hard enough.
Chris Rock Compares ‘Woke 1’ to the Old Testament and Salem Witch Trials: ‘No Forgiveness’
I've read more believable headlines from Weekly World News. The NYT continues to get worse and worse with each passing year.
The U.S. wants a nuclear reactor on the moon by 2030. A Russian-Chinese alliance is working on one for 2036. Some leading scientists caution that governments are moving too quickly and the danger is great. trib.al/HT96ZqB
Ok, here's the thing... There's nothing wrong with actually engaging with people who disagree with you on subjects like the ones discussed in this 🧵. Such conversations should be had, especially with teens and young adults...
I see today we're arguing whether you should engage with people whom you disagree and it makes me feel very thankful to all the people throughout my life who took the time to talk to me despite our differences.
Made the mistake of reading the comments under a post about REACHER already getting renewed for a sixth season. Soooooo many insecure dudes whining about Reacher almost dying at the hands of two knife-wielding female martial artists in S4. I hope S5 and S6 give them even more things to cry about.
My wife has similar issues with actors. She tends to refer to them by the movie she most associates them with. Russell Crowe = "Gladiator" James Earl Jones = "Mufasa" Cary Elwes = "Princess Bride" Brendan Fraser = "Monkeybone" Her (pointing at actor on screen): "Oh, is that Gladiator?!?"
So, my 12yo kid has always had trouble remembering names. It’s just the way his brain works/doesn’t work. And today was my favorite: “Hey, is that Black Jackson?”
By tomorrow, we're going to be at "Tom Cruise has requested time to address the nation on Tuesday at 9 p.m."
Honestly not sure why anyone would get mad about a Mann recut at this point. There are at least 4 different cuts of MOHICANS, at least 3 of MANHUNTER, 2 cuts of HEAT, at least 3 of ALI, 2 cuts of BLACKHAT, and now 3 of MIAMI VICE. Recuts are a Mann staple, for better or worse.
I get people being mad Michael Mann recut Miami Vice but his decision to reshoot the entire Zapped Again music video that closed out that movie with people he found at a bus station and lots of clapping was unique
There aren’t any good movie executives. They are what would occur if your useless, middle-management supervisor got bit by a radioactive douchebag.
Man. Sad remarks from a director of SCOOB! HOLIDAY HAUNT, the third completed movie WB cancelled for a tax break on a post about Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca's ouster, saying they were responsible along with Zaslav for shelving the movie and Abdy only called him after the news leaked on Twitter.
I do not owe my time to placate the stupidty and ugliness of others. They can fix themselves on their own time or drown in their own lack of worth. I have better things to do than waste my energy on people who do not value the lives of people who are different than them.
The best cure for ideological bias is find someone on the other side and go to lunch with them. Sometimes we disagree about facts. Sometimes we disagree about values. Figuring out which is which is fun part. https://newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/my-libertarian-friends-were-right
They're making everyone anxious about it because they themselves are anxious about it. They NEED it to work or they're gonna go bankrupt. You know what? Let them. They should go bankrupt for being that stupid. Let the market actually cut the knees out from under them when the AI bottom falls out.
Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.
To be fair, most actual people are dumber than a bag of hoe handles. So I've never really taken issue with horror movie characters following suit as a result.
I have come to really enjoy horror movies but boy are the characters in them usually dumber than a bag of hoe handles.
THE THING. That said, Carpenter basically had a perfect run from 1976 to 1988. Very few directors have managed such a stellar run like that. 10 excellent films, 2 great TV movies, and a couple cool producing projects as well. All worthy of being declared someone's Carpenter fave.
What’s your favorite John Carpenter film? 🎃

Just watched “Coyote vs Acme.” I’m not sure I have ever seen a clearer example of the ineptitude of movie studio executives than the fact those bozos couldn’t see how to could make money with this one.

This is something I chuckle about every time my family makes me sit through a HALLOWEENTOWN rewatch.
Fun fact: Alfred Sole, director of 'Alice, Sweet Alice' (1976), was a production designer for this + other DCOM films like 'Johnny Tsunami' and 'Hatching Pete'
No better summation of AMERICAN HORROR STORY (and Ryan Murphy TV projects in general) exists.

Every single thing is The Producers now. Nobody actually trying to do something, just trying to buy companies and ruin them as a stock market scam.
Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy are out at Warner Bros, an insider tells The Hollywood Reporter.
One of the reasons Dracula works and is good is cause it’s about every single middle-class British neurosis and paranoia AT ONCE
"dracula is actually about repression" "dracula is actually about bloodsucking landlords" "dracula is actually about assault" "dracula is actually about xenophobia" "dracula is actually about bram stoker being closeted" dracula is about all of those things welcome to the gothic genre
Look, if they want another hired hand to bring whatever they've slapped together on screen again, they could do far, far worse than bringing back Bayona for a second dino go.
J.A. Bayona has emerged top of the list at Universal to direct the follow up to Jurassic World Rebirth, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
