I'm not as new to all of this as I look. 😉 I love sci-fi, music, new and different cultures and FOOD. Folks in the US, please, please travel more! There's a world of ideas out there waiting. ❤️

No doubt this has occurred to other bystanders as well, but it would seem that a handful of billionaires dropping $150 million into a single state's election in an attempt to defeat a wealth-tax initiative just about makes the entire case for a wealth-tax initiative.

Newsom rejecting the billionaire wealth tax is one thing. Supporting the billionaires' poison pill alternative which would ban taxes on assets permanently, end any chance to fix stepped-up basis, & could be used by an enterprising lawyer to invalidate vehicle fee or other tax changes is another.

The California governor opposes the proposed levy on ultrawealthy that goes before voters on Nov. 3.

“Ingrate Zelenskyy who keeps blowing up refineries and making things more complicated for the president ahead of the midterms.” 😂 Zelenskyy is trying to defend his country against Russian aggression, but it’s all about Trump, right? You can’t make this shit up.

Anyone can have a hard life and I'll not default to poking at those who don't make it. But if you look around and think the right response to you not making it is to make it harder for people busting their ass to get anywhere rather than busting your own, then fuck off all the way into the sun

Well done, Gillian!!! Your work matters SO much— to the people who have suffered on these flights and deserve to have their stories told, to the people who may NOT be deported because fewer flights take place, and to those of us who are sick of the cruelty that is being done with our tax money.

also, this shit is just run-of-the-mill segregationist ideology. the substance of keeperman and rufo's discussion is identical to the infamous line from the trial judge in loving v. virginia

The amount of Amazon workers relying on SNAP and Medicaid has nearly tripled since 2020 — while Amazon’s annual profits soared by over 550%. It’s the same story everywhere: corporate profits are at record highs, while workers’ share of the economy is at a record low. We must unrig the system.

This is a bad ruling for all of the reasons Justice Jackson’s dissent make clear. But as both the majority and dissent point out, it’s not likely to have major effects *this* cycle because we’re inside the 90-day NVRA purge window.

I was deputy M.E. at the WSJ when Murdoch took over, with a similar “editorial independence board.” Within 4 months, our top editor was gone, replaced by a loyal Murdoch deputy. That board raised a quivering objection, but the deed was done. If the Ellisons own CNN, they’ll do whatever they want.

"...when winds at jet-stream level blow much harder or in a different direction than winds near the surface — vertical wind shear — the [hurricane] chimney tilts, the core vents, and organization fails. El Niño manufactures exactly that shear." www.elninolive.com/impacts/atla...

El Niño Atlantic Hurricane Season 2026 — El Niño 2026 Tracker

El Niño's wind shear historically suppresses Atlantic hurricanes — 1997 went famously quiet. But Andrew hit in an El Niño year. The 2026 season, explained.

If you don't know who Liz Oyer is, she's the terminated federal employee currently suing for wrongful termination over Mel Gibson (sorry if I don't have the description of the suit exactly correct). "Most transparent govt in history", IF you can read through redactions of the entirety of the form.

Yet another layer of the Epstein coverup has been revealed. This one involves Ghislaine Maxwell’s prison transfer, days after her private meeting with Todd Blanche. youtube.com/shorts/QqKua...

I'm just utterly disoriented by any democratic staffer that is smart on media reform the party hasn't had a coherent media reform strategy in 50 years, which culminated in the right wing and their corporate friends building the biggest and most effective propaganda machine in human history

fun part if you ask me: higher ed institutions in secular democracies are the closest approximation of a 'marketplace of ideas' as you are likely to find this side of a global revolution and a lot of people who claim to like that idea do not seem to love its results

To think that we live among idiots who think that "elite institutions" have been "captured by leftist ideologues" lmao

You do not beta-test voting rules on a live federal election. Voters are not test subjects and ballots are not a pilot program. If you need “real-world evidence” to find out how your rule works, you’ve just admitted you don’t know what you’re implementing.

The republicans just suggested if the judge makes the USPS rule optional - not mandatory - for states, that she let USPS reject non compliant ballots for the states that choose to voluntarily participate. The judge asks “do a test run on this election”???

The feminist movement was never a threat to men. Secure men have always understood that. They stood beside women, fought for equality, and some proudly called themselves feminists too. If women having equal power feels like oppression to you, feminism isn’t the problem.
