My first paper is out in Protein Science ! 🎉 We developed 𝗘𝗻𝘇𝘆𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿 to find catalytic residues in protein structures by matching them against 6,780 3D catalytic templates from the 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝘁𝗹𝗮𝘀. DOI: doi.org/10.1002/pro....

With Enzyme Motif Miner you can geometrically scan protein structures against a library of catalytic templates derived from the Mechanism and Catalytic Site Atlas.

🧬 Are you into endogenous viral elements? If yes (and you should be, they are pretty cool) I highly recommend getting in touch with the amazing Katy via the sign up sheet! 🦠

I'm thinking of organising a meeting on endogenous viral elements (RNA, DNA and retroviral) - if you'd potentially be interested, please fill out the form here - forms.gle/wrCiWMw4yXZe... - so I can gauge interest. Please RT or share with anyone maybe interested! 🧪🧬🖥️🦠 #virology #bioinformatics

NEW: The NIH has begun terminating grants for active projects studying gender identity, DEI, environmental justice, climate change, among other topics. At least 16 termination letters have already been sent — and hundreds more are coming, people inside NIH tell me. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Exclusive: NIH to terminate hundreds of active research grants

Studies that touch on LGBT+ health, gender identity and DEI in the biomedical workforce could be terminated, according to documents obtained by Nature.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research. I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research. Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
