Another day, another visit under the bay. Jellyfish and crabs far less scary than the human world above sea level.

I like basil, quahogs, horseshoe crabs, and teaching high school critters. Oh, and swear words. he/him/his (photos taken by me unless otherwise noted....) https://www.science-teacher.net/
Finally got Merlin app to ID bird songs. Never made sense to me before I got my hearing aids Makes sense now.
The beauty of Bluesky is it's lack of intensity. I am like Samuel Pepys, recording daily nonsense to no one and everyone. My fav accounts have similar vibes.
Maybe clearing out poison ivy while barefoot and in shorts was a bad idea....
I absolutely do not believe in science 🧪--neither should you: www.science-teacher.net/2022/06/15/f...

You cannot learn science without letting go of what your brain knows to be true. Antoine Lavoisier was decapitated. His final act was blinking repeatedly after his head rolled into the basket, his l…

Well, OK then--some laps in the town pool in the morning, dip in the bay later this afternoon.
Spent even more time swimming underwater along the most southwestern edge of New Jersey, but my hands are still not webbed. Maybe Lysenko was wrong. (FWIW, he was an economist, not a biologist--he managed to kill a lot of folks with his magical thinking.) ((My kids have normal hands as well.))
Part of the magic of Bluesky....

Agree things are tough, but gotta mention that if you were living in Michigan in 1982 with a baby on the way and no job, things were pretty fookin' grim.
Polls show most Americans think young adults today have it harder financially than past generations. A majority of parents help their grown children with expenses, even if it hurts their own finances. n.pr/4qbIn0T

Not hard to do. Gravity is one mofo of a force, and sooner or later the Earth, the moon, the sun or some other blob of mass gonna grab you.
How incompetent an engineer do you have to be that your rocket collides with the nearest object to Earth in the endless space of the universe?
Currently conducting a study on the itchiness of mosquito bites vs. that of poison ivy. (No jellyfish stings in a out two weeks, though....) ((Gawd I love summer!!))

I had my prostate yanked out by a robot a few months ago. I got my first pair of hearing aids last week, allowing this congenitally hard of hearing guy to hear new sounds. Between these two seemingly unrelated events, I now know why urinating is called "tinkling"--what a joyous sound!
Codifying something that has been an extremely private (but not uncommon) matter between physicians and families is, I think, a dangerous blending pf state and profession. FWIW, I'm a retired pediatrician.

More than worth our time:
It was probably an accident, they probably didn't see me, but someone threw the entire contents of a bottle of soda all over me on the sidewalk yesterday. It reminded me how wildly, deeply proud I am of this story: yourimpossiblevoice.com/a-list-of-th...
during the lockdown in nyc, the sirens were incessant throughout the night. there were refrigerator trucks stacked with corpses. a field hospital was set up in central park.
RFK Jr: Trump wanted to end lockdowns. In Fauci's diary, he talks about how the president was calling him trying to get him to reopen the country BASH: The lockdowns were down by governors K: They cited Fauci B: Govs were hearing from hospitals that their ICUs were overrun K: That's not true
Worth posting in context as it is bang on topic.
It's raining. I got my hearing aids just under a week ago. Magical.
Biting into sun-warmed tomatoes, some of it dripping down my chin (and often on my clothes) is one of summer's delights. If you live in NJ, and you have access to even a tiny patch of sunny ground (even if not your own), toss in a plant next May and stand back.
