Heading into D.C. for to hang out with a friend from my teen years whom I have't seen since the early '80s, and did my due diligence to make sure I'm not wandering about an asymptomatic threat, so that when he returns home from his trip he won't be bringing an unwanted gift from me.

Remembering the late Dave Hunt, born on this date in 1942, with whom in Giant-Size Defenders #5 (July 1975) I shared what's may be the longest comic book credits box ever. It was also the first time my name appeared as a creator in a comic book.

A ridiculously long credit box which reads: "You won’t believe this, but … Steve Gerber, Gerry Conway, Roger Slifer, Len Wein, Chris Claremont, and Scott Edelman plotted this tale. Steve scripted it, Don Heck drew it, Mike Esposito inked it, Dave Hunt inked the backgrounds and lettered it, G. Roussos colored it, Len edited it. Coffee and moral support were provided (for a price) by the Lantern Coffee Shop on 53rd St. and Carla made the meatloaf. Once you’ve read it—the story, not the meatloaf—you may wonder why. Answer: Why not?"

Still find it hard to believe — even after all these years — I was lucky enough to know, work beside, and sometimes work with 15 of the creators thanked in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. One even dragged me through Times Square with my arms wrapped around his ankles! (You can probably guess which.)
