Rozanov: "There's nothing easier than to quote a text precisely, you just have to check books. It's far more difficult to assimilate a quotation to the point where it becomes yours and becomes part of you." (via Czapski in Lost in Time (NYRB 2018) p 22, note.

Replies and quote tweets of this are informative about a certain range of attitudes indicating some people are very angry that women in Edinburgh have a single sex service set up in addition to the ERCC service which did not guarantee such services for users.

It was preposterous that amnesty characterised a trauma informed service to support women who have been subject to sexual and domestic violence as anti rights. There was an impact on service users and this shows an impact on staff. No wonder those involved were and remain so angry

Wot, more porkies? In one Goon Show, Eccles says to Neddie Seagoon that he bought a tie when he was at Cambridge. 'Cambridge? What were YOU doing there?' says Neddie. 'Buying a tie', replies Eccles, innocently and haplessly. It's taken six decades, but Eccles is now at the apex of his profession.

I hope Ariana gets better. You’d hope in she has better resources than most to do so. But my main concern is about the culture that normalises and glamorises extreme thinness, and the effect that has on all girls and women. I don’t think we should stop talking about that in case it upsets Ariana.

Ariana Grande is not listening to anything I have got to say. But when I took my 7 year old daughter to see Wicked, she turned to me with wide eyes and said “mummy! You can see all the bones in her chest!” So yes, I would like there to be a public discussion about how unhealthy that is

I find the suggestion that we somehow owe it to Ariana Grande not to mention how clearly unwell she is really weird. As if her wellbeing is the only one that matters here, or as if she is reading my posts and is going to made more unwell by them
