This is a thorough, enlightening article on Veganism & food accessibility, that’s refreshingly compassionate towards those of us with medically restricted diets. No belittling or scorning, just a deep dive into food culture as it pertains to dietary restrictions & adherence. A worthwhile read.

Following my recent hospital stay, I was moved to write about something I've had in mind for a while: how restricted diets may be something people choose, but once you become someone who doesn't eat certain things, declining to eat them is NOT a choice every meal... oolong.medium.com/needs-vs-wan...

Generally impressed by all the NHS workers at this hospital, but bewildered to be treated as if they've never met (let alone fed) a vegan before... I think veganism is broadly good for your health, and Livingston is not exactly a major city, but this can't seriously be a new thing for them, can it?

I thought I'd make a thread of some of the things that people who care about trans rights people and human rights could do to help. We really need more cis people stepping up. • Post about it sometimes. Make sure people who see you online know that you're aware of what's going on, and you care.

"Taken as a whole, this is the most profound rollback of the rights of a minority in my lifetime." A useful primer on how trans people's human rights have been wrecked in the UK, and what it tells us about the country's politics more broadly. www.liberalcurrents.com/the-end-of-t...

In July 1969, London hosted the first international symposium on Gender Identity. The kind remark from the American delegate (and the benignly curious, sympathetic tone of the article) shouldn't astonish 57 years later.

"The fact that we cannot measure what it is in their minds that makes them male or female does not absolve us from trying to make life a little easier for them.” It’s so depressing that this profound empathy feels completely alien right now

I’ve been playing a lot of #Pokopia lately. It’s excellent & very hard to put down (think Minecraft + Animal Crossing set in a Pokemon world where humans have disappeared and all traces of humanity lie in ruin) Here are some highlights (no story spoilers but shows a couple of abilities you can get)

Glimmet, a toxic cave plant pokemon, says “I am cute. It is the truth. But you should not touch me.”Volbeat, a bug pokemon with an admittedly shiny butt says “And it’s a pretty nice butt, don’t you think? So shiny!”At a small construction site, magikarp flops about going “happy to help!”Machoke asks what’s on my mind, “it’s gotta be…muscles! Am I right?”
My dialogue choice: “I’m thinkin’ about bread”

‘if only I could figure out exactly the right words and put them in exactly the right order… I will finally be understood’. 🥺 excellent post (as usual!) from @scrappapertiger.bsky.social

Joanne on @zackpolanski.bsky.social: "he's like the neurodivergent person at the meeting, going 'I'm going to say the thing that everyone else is avoiding saying, because I don't know why they're avoiding saying it, because it's actually the point that they're talking round and round.'" SO TRUE.
