walk with me here but i think if home printers had stayed as common as they used to be and people still grew up with a temperamental, unreasonable, possessed and outright CURSED object in their house, society would remember to be incredibly skeptical of ALL technology and its inevitable betrayals
My answer is LOL ROFL (dickbrain) The terminally AI-pilled can't even *imagine* some people have *never* asked stochastic parrots to cheat at their job for them.

the AUDACITY of these motherfuckers to release a FIRE EMBLEM game on the switch i DON'T own
I wrote about the Trojan horse, and what we can learn from her mouth about different cultural attitudes towards deception and violence. As someone comments below, the phrase GIFT ARTICLE is pretty scary in this context.
Turns out @emilyrcwilson.bsky.social knows a lot about ancient epics www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
this post is just. chef kiss. www.reddit.com/r/suggestmea... perfect encapsulation of adults dumbing themselves down, not understanding genres or labels, everything, absolutely everything
more greek myth thoughts: i think too many people are too monotheism brained to appreciate that gods in the greek myths can still be gods even though they're not all-powerful. they depict a pantheon of gods who have more knowledge and power than humans but use them to fuck around
really proud of new jersey for bringing out the most unhinged bts yet

There's a National Blood Supply Crisis Happening Right Now
Red Cross officials are pleading with Americans to donate blood, especially if they have O-positive blood.

Thinking about the time the Grammys were boasting about their viewership and an ARMY qt-ed it with a screenshot of an empty chair on WV live and pointed out that more people had waited for JK to come back from the bathroom.
Anyway, good luck with those ratings, grammys
The oddest thing about the response to this essay is people who say it’s “personal”. You can disagree about some or all of it! I may well be wrong! But it’s not “personal” to analyze a film or other work of art, even negatively. Criticism is more than “Hurray!” or “Hiss!”
almost done rereading the odyssey and i think new readers will be shocked at these guys washing their hands every 5 pages. and also burying their dead and caring about each other when they die. all those things AND MORE happen in the odyssey!
larger implications aside it’s always funny when an LRB piece breaks containment because it’s like a crowd shows up with machetes on your porch and you are. an old Man whittling whistles or making cups out of willow bark
i hate how much people care about their ships being "canon" now. spirk fans didn't publish zines full of fanfics in the 70s only for modern fandom to grovel at the knees of corporations and beg for things to be canon. use your imaginations, don't allow billionaires to think for you.
"i wonder if emily wilson liked a christopher nolan movie about homer" is such a hilarious thought to have
today i am missing the toast and the hairpin and television without pity and every fun magazine site that's been dead these past ~10 horrible years
I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
Emily Wilson · An Uncomplicated Man
As they say at the awards shows, I was humbled to learn that Christopher Nolan has read at least the first line of my...

all i can think about
have i mentioned that i love classical translation so much
Now that many people are buying my 2017 metrical verse translation of the Odyssey in great numbers (thank you, Mr Nolan!), or at least, gazing at it and wondering whether to buy it, I thought I should share some thoughts on the cover design.
has anyone NOT played these. you should!!!!!!!!!
