As you can see, fires in the Pacific NW are getting much larger in recent decades. The largest fires (100K acres+) have increased by 10-15X since the 1980s. 1/

Bubble size shows the total acreage burned that year by wildfires of at least 25,000 acres across Washington, Oregon and Idaho—the larger the bubble, the more land burned. Bubble color groups those same yearly totals: blue for lower-acreage years, gold for middle and red for the high years.
As you can see the size (not number) of fires and burned area has increased significantly. It’s not rocket science. Warming = drying = stuff burns easier - once a fire is started. And yes, we are now more vulnerable to these fires because we keep building on the wildland-urban interface… 2/
