South Dorset Liberal Democrats

@sdlibdems.bsky.social

This is the official account of the South Dorset Liberal Democrats.

We've changed our banner from the Climate stripes to reflect the beauty of the area we live in. Of course, the climate still matters - that is why the Lib Dem led council declared a climate emergency and work so hard to reflect that in all that they do. But we can still enjoy the beauty of the area

❗️Important point by our youth coordinator Livvy Gibbs: FPTP is the only system that could allow an extreme government take 100% of the power on under 30% of the vote, putting our rights and freedoms at risk. PR would not just make our democracy healthier now, but also help safeguard its future.

Mr Tice aspires to be in government? Yet he thinks it OK to brush aside the manhandling , hair pulling and hitting with a crutch of a heckler at the Reform conference - and also OK to dismiss an action that has, by all appearances, caused risk to life and arrest. In government - setting our laws??

This contains great potential for Lib Dems - we only need to swing a few seats and our position would be greatly strengthened - no Labour Government could operate without us. And we would, likely, have shrunk the Tories & perhaps even the Greens. Get campaigning now! news.sky.com/story/poll-p...

Poll projects result if election held tomorrow

An exclusive YouGov mega poll for Sky News and The Times reveals Andy Burnham is seeing a bounce, but not enough to win a majority.

Further evidence of the growing momentum for re-joining the EU (the long-standing Lib Dem position!!) .... www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli... When you meet the residual "leavers" - take the time to explain kindly that changing your mind is a normal, human thing to do when you learn new facts.

All but four constituencies would support reversing Brexit and rejoining the EU

New in-depth polling finds 35 per cent of voters would choose EU membership as their preferred policy option – with just 11 per cent wanting looser ties with the bloc

The evidence mounts that a pro-Europe stance can defeat Reform - but if Labour adopt it under FPTP it could return another unassailable majority on a minority of votes! So vote for those who have consistently argued for this AND get a balanced parliament! www.independent.co.uk/voices/this-...

This is the only way that Andy Burnham can beat Nigel Farage

Our polling shows that campaigning to go back into Europe is the only way to stop the electoral map turning turquoise, says Best for Britain CEO Naomi Smith

This afternoon we have head two leading labour figures making powerful policy statements.. - Ed Milliband addressing Labour Conference on the necessity of being closer to Europe - Andy Burnham on LBC arguing (again!) for investing properly in social care Thanks for endorsing Lib Dem policies!!

🚨 Ed Miliband: "Europe is not just our geography, but so much more. "And on economics, on defence, on security, I say to this conference: our future lies in a stronger, deeper partnership with the European Union."

“AndyBurnham suggests social care reform would come after 2029, saying voters will be asked to back it at election. “ The Guardian, 27 September ‘26. Thank you Andy - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Lib Dem’s have been arguing for drastic changes to improve social care for years.

Over the last 7 weeks from August 7th to Sept 25th the Liberal Democrats are the only party to make substantial gains in local council by-elections, whilst holding all of their seats that were up for re-election. 🔶 Lib Dems: Held: 4/4 Gained: 5 Lost: 0 Net gain: +5 #LibDems

Good to see Labour taking the climate crisis seriously and openly. But always remember that Reform and the Tories want to roll back programmes designed to address it. Voting for them damages your children and grandchildren. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Parties that campaign on British sovereignty are taking large sums from donors abroad. William Wallace said the Representation of the People Bill will not close every loophole, but Lib Dems will push for changes to limit donations and campaign spending.

We have to treat mental health with the same seriousness we treat physical health. And that starts with funding. While mental health services receive such meagre funding, vulnerable people and children will be left on waiting lists. We need fairer funding to get this right.
