31.07.75 Buskhill, Co Down. Remembering the Miami Showband, those who died, survived, and all affected by the massacre and the long crusade for justice. Thoughts and prayers to all, and especially Stephen Travers for his love and tireless work for his band mates. 🙏❤️

Sorry to hear of the death of the BBC's Edward Stourton. "Cruel Crossing" about the escape routes from Hitler over the Pyrenees was a brilliant read, and he wrote with great insight about Catholicism. A highly regarded member of the "old brigade". RIP🙏

Felicidades y Gracias Lionel Messi. The greatest footballer, but more importantly, the greatest role model, possessing the class to show youngsters you can be a superstar without acting like a complete arse. 🙌🇦🇷

Genuinely upset at death of Gary Sobers. Beyond doubt the greatest cricketer of my lifetime. More importantly, he showed you can be hero and legend and not completely lose the run of yourself. Privileged to have seen him play. A proud, decent representative of Barbados and West Indies. Go well!!🙏

55 years ago this week - with pal Steve - first saw James Taylor (with Carole King ) at Manchester Free Trade Hall. Delighted Steve was there with us again tonight, in the stunning surroundings of #edinburghcastle. James was superb, representing the best of America! Love the man!!!

Ádh mór agus míle buíochas to Áine Lawlor of #RTE who for 42 years has represented the highest integrity in current affairs, political and news broadcasting. A godsend to those of us outwith Ireland, who could always depend on her incisive and balanced reporting. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat!

"Manchesterism" is the UK's new big thing. Unemployment in Manchester 6.5% Unemployment in Scotland 4.3% Child poverty in Manchester 37% Child poverty in Scotland 21% But Manchester DOES have loads of empty luxury flats. Seems the UK needs less Manchesterism and more ScotGov.

Totally niche again, but given I follow quite a lot of Italians I thought it was worth a try. I'm looking for anyone who really loved Pinocchio as a child - someone for whom it has a special significance for any reason, or who has a story connected with it. I'd be grateful for RTs. Thank you.

The war in the Persian Gulf and the jet fuel shortage it created exposed the closure of Grangemouth oil refinery last year as a dangerous act of folly. I’ve written for the Times explaining why refining capacity is a crucial national infrastructure central to our energy security.
