Happy to report I am mostly recovered from Covid. Still have a cough and an occasional sore throat and I’m still tired, but the fever and aches are gone and I even (barely) had the energy to do laundry, so things are looking up.

The US, long the champion of free transit of international water, launched a war of choice that achieved none of its stated policy goals but has led to the elimination of free transit on 1 of the world’s most important waterways. This could go down as the stupidest foreign policy choice In history.
Great job all around. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/u...
Popcorn has been extra cuddly the past few days. Either she knows I’m sick and is trying to comfort me or my fever makes me an even warmer resting place than usual.

The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.
As someone currently suffering with Covid, all the Republicans downplaying the pandemic and calling Fauci a criminal can go to hell.
Like, how is it not even 11 yet? I feel like Ive been awake for at least 12 hours.
Previously unreported COVID symptom: time moves so fucking slowly.

Am I missing something or does the random sentence sharing the history of the reflecting pool suggest Burgum wrote this with a substandard AI?
Oh my. Pirro v Burgum is on people. (Cannot see how they both stay in their jobs)
Johnston’s post might be the weirdest non-Trump post I’ve seen in a while. Amongst many other things, ‘second generation immigrants’ are better known as native born.
Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right
My fever is down significantly (though still present) but my throat is more painful. Overall, I feel better and hope this is the trend. Covid sucks.
This is the most racist political ad I’ve seen in a long time. I might even be willing to be convinced it’s the most racist of all time. www.facebook.com/watch/?v=280...

Anyone have any recommendations for light and funny shows to binge on Netflix or Hulu or HBO Max?
I just got diagnosed with Covid. It’s my first time that I know of but it’s mild so far.
If this is a mild version, I wonder what a moderate version is.

Navarro was on the administration as a trade advisor. He is dangerously incompetent when it comes to trade policy but is far worse when assigned any other task. That Trump gave him any role in the COVID response, by itself, shows how Trump was/is not suited to be President.
Peter Navarro: "I had a million doses of hydroxychloroquine in warehouses as the defense policy coordinator that I was trying to distribute to hospitals. And Fauci got the FDA stop me from doing that."
Bacon, cheddar and onion omelette is my favorite. If that’s not basic enough, then scrambled or over hard.
lets talk about something truly controversial- whats the best basic breakfast egg version- fried scrambled poached or omelette
I’m completely straight but I still think the right answer is Matt Bomer in White Collar. Runner up is probably Jennifer Connely in Rocketeer.

there is a recurring prompt around what’s the best that anyone has ever looked on camera and I never have an answer but I’m watching right now and I think it’s gotta be George Clooney in Ocean’s 11
I’m in NJ visiting family so I don’t have the time or head space to look into Trump’s new round of tariffs. Let me just they this preemptively: They’re nonsense.
There are at least 4 problems with Trump’s post. 1. He’s cherry-picked which wars to include. We’ve fought other wars with fewer than 18 conflicts. 2. All the wars with more deaths lasted longer and the Iran war is ongoing. If he keeps going with the war, this post might age very poorly.
His dismissal of those he killed. Just suckers & losers I suppose?
Looking to speak with any Black folks in New Mexico, Arizona, Missouri, Maryland, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Washington, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, or Colorado (whew) who have had their Medicaid or SNAP benefits abruptly canceled! (I’m writing about how AI systems are denying benefits)
This is foolish nonsense, and Mr. Cooper probably knows it. BlueAnon is a real thing.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has the constitutional authority to temporarily appoint someone to fill Mitch McConnell’s seat. If GOP lawmakers want to challenge that, they can do so. This will be the first big test to see whether Beshear really is presidential material. I hope he passes the test.
A good amendment to the Section 338 tariff statute would be to make it only apply where no trade agreement exists with the country in question. If a trade agreement exists, there is an opportunity to challenge any discrimination under the trade agreement's dispute provisions.
Congress desperately needs to re-assert control over tariff (tax) policy, by getting rid of these old laws that everyone assumed no one would use. Our system is not intended to let one person raise taxes on a whim.

For those curious what the tariffs are about: after Trump imposed the dumb anti-fentanyl tariffs, 🇨🇦 retaliated against us with trade restrictions if there own. All this time later, Trump is now saying 🇨🇦 tariffs are discriminatory bc they only target us and not countries that didn’t put tariffs on 🇨🇦
The new tariffs on Canada are not about wildfires but about things almost as stupid. But Trump apparently has been seriously considering tariffs bc of the wildfires and it wasn’t just social media talk. If we survive the next 2+ years of his presidency with a functioning economy, it’ll be a miracle.
