Drivers are so accustomed to taking bus lanes to turn right (often legal in Seattle) and entering 'closed streets' (illegal but unenforced) that I don't think you can make a change like this without a traffic officer

Seattle currently has an AQI of 110 (it was supposed to be blue skies when I took this picture)
I realized I was out of KN95 masks, so I took the train instead of biking. While i didn’t smell the smoke leaving Seattle, the it was very noticeable when arriving in Bellevue
I wonder how many miles of new highway lanes WSDOT will add between now and 2060…

“fun” fact: I believe the Rapid Ride J project doesn’t include bus lanes in this area, so buses will be stuck in traffic whenever there’s a congestion on I5. (Video speed 2x)
We spent almost half a billion dollars to build the Montlake lid with elaborate HOV exits/entrances, and the buses are still stuck in traffic…
Seattle Bike Dad 🚲 👨👧@seattlebikedad.bsky.social · 6d agoOnce again, visually confirmed today that 80% of cars are single occupants on this 3+ HOV exit… this really slows down buses… will @wsdot.wa.gov or @transportation.seattle.gov do anything to make this a bus-only exit?
Protected bike infrastructure is quite popular in Seattle
Still thinking about this: why put speed bumps on greenways instead of the intersecting streets where drivers are actually supposed to stop? Diverters should limit traffic on greenways, while cross streets get speed bumps at greenway intersections.

After seeing the Federal Way “downtown” station for the first time, I think we could remove “downtown” from the name to save space on the information screens

Okay, it took me a second to get moving, but I definitely didn’t expect a truck with no turn signal to make a turn and almost hit the pedestrian crossing on the right (hard to see in the video). How do we actually get better drivers?

Brandon der Blätter@intcreator.com · 2w agoatrocious detour by Seattle City Light. no signs in one direction, car only signs in the opposite direction. after complaining they said I was harassing them and eventually someone wrote “pedestrian” on one of the signs (still no signs mentioning bikes)
I do live in the 46th District, and voted for Ron! I hope all my fellow northeast Seattleites do so as well.

A large part of Wallingford and the U-District is now an extension of I-5 ramps: completely gridlocked with no good alternative to move people, as buses are also stuck in the traffic, and the lack of bike lanes makes it difficult to efficiently and safely ride along these streets (video speed 4x)
Another bike lane that just disappears right before the intersection. These dangerous gaps in infrastructure are a major barrier to widespread bike adoption
With a different summer camp every week, each at a new location with its own schedule, I’m really pushing the limits of my bike commute. For example, this week my commute is 2x the distance, but the main challenge is figuring out how to take meetings on the go without using a car as a phone booth…

Locations of broken flex post align with biggest change of curvature around the lake, and parking spots on Green Lake Dr N

Painted bike lanes are not bike infrastructure. The problem with going to the Eastside is that you have a world-class trail, the 520 trail, that has a major gap in Bellevue. Option 1 - Northup Way: video here of a truck with no side guard passing without the mandatory safety distance
Saw a police cruiser pull over and the officer ticket a car parked “just for a minute” in the bike lane. … clearly, this was not in Seattle… Business‑trip perks.
It is a revolution! When I started commuting with my kid by bike 5 years ago, seeing other parents with kids on bikes was pretty rare. Now I see cargo bikes everywhere. Seattle's bike counters count bicycles, but if they counted the people on those bikes, the shift would be much easier to quantify
