Since much of human knowledge has migrated from libraries to the internet, once sane government returns to the US, a new mandate should be given to the Library of Congress: to create and operate a search engine that is free to all to use. Something that is free of ads & AI, independent of oligarchs.

Working on an A.I. policy for my calculus classes. Decided to be upfront about the current situation with LLMs and to give a heartfelt explanation for why the course still matters.
This election season is so overwhelming, and I'm not even talking about how many messages I get daily for donations. It's the nationalization of so many state races where disinformation is indistinguishable from actual bad candidates--I can't reasonably vet every candidate in every state myself

Cleveland forever, Ohio never (in Simpsons B Sharps episode style)
I'd be interested in some thoughts from Americans on here on an idea: Over the last 5 years, have you found yourself identifying more with your home state than the US as a whole over time?
Clean indoor air is *the* main answer to the spread of respiratory disease. Just like in the 20th century we agreed potable water and unpolluted outside air were public goods, in the 21st we should be mandating air changes per hour and filtration inside.
Two new pots of money (one private, one public) totaling $650M, targeting clean indoor air. I'm concerned by the private fund's structure, but today I'm choosing to focus on the benefits that could result from new money flowing into efforts to clean our indoor air www.patreon.com/mattbc/posts...

NEW — Belfast-based writer @hleehurley.com talks about the racist pogroms that have terrorized his city, how existing tensions in Northern Ireland (and *not* Elon Musk) primed local factions to turn violent, and how Minnesota’s response to ICE inspired their community to care for one another:
Elon Musk alone isn’t responsible for Belfast's racist pogrom
The violent response to an attempted murder would have happened regardless of Musk, Lee Hurley writes.

I think you make cool videos or art that I find thought-provoking or entertaining. Tech CEOs think you make "content" because they don't care about its qualities beyond driving traffic. When you call yourself a "content creator", you're aligning with the tech bros' vision rather than fans'.
Fellow cis people: Making up “cutesy” pronouns for yourself is literally making a game and a joke out of people’s identities. It’s so fucking disrespectful and dismissive. Take pronouns seriously.
To my body and my emotions, it is received no differently than if you just outright said a slur, because as a trans person, cis people doing this kind of shit are usually saying "my pronouns are fuck/off" or "don't/care" or on occasion, saying to me that they're going to make my pronouns "was/were."

I found this neat tool that lets you generate text and images just from your ideas. It's really good!
The new Cincinnati Reds City Connect uniforms look like pajamas, and I am curious if people like them or if I just don't get it because I'm not from there (like how everyone in Cleveland loves our City Connect but outside CLE reactions are mixed)
Ladies and gentlemen... the weekend. (also: you are important and are not alone 🧡)
The previous round of oligarchs were at least polite enough to build some beautiful buildings. This current set of oligarchs are the worst.
In a moment of my work life and hobby life getting mixed up in a way nobody but me noticed, this week in class I referred to a genecon as Gen Con
For a long time I was on team "weight is a convenient shorthand way of saying gravitational force on an object." Then I joined team "weight is a word we should just avoid using in physics classes for a multitude of reasons."
CEOs and tech bros: AI is going to replace people! My phone: you look really good (while showing me a pic of my sharps container that I thought looked like a goofy face).
Take me down to Parallax City Where the front moves slow and the back moves quickly.

Spending my Saturday doing The Most Cleveland Thing, waiting in line for paczki at Rudy's Strudel
I spend a lot of time thinking about teachers and their students, so I feel like publicly saying that HS math teacher Bob Erdman and CWRU astro professor Dr. Heather Morrison (the GOAT) changed my life for the better. Who changed yours?
