Did you see how Apple, Amazon Walmart and other big companies are refunding the billions of dollars they got back from the federal tariff settlement to their customers, who ultimately bore the cost of higher prices? Yea, me neither.

“The proposed changes are seen as a significant step backward in environmental protection, with potential long-term negative impacts on Ontario’s biodiversity and ecological integrity,” reads the internal ministry analysis from March. #ONpoli

It will be worse than this! Most websites will be forced to ask you to send your ID to a third party surveillance service, adding a credit card won't be enough for most. Bluesky asks for your *social security number* if you live in Texas now, due to this shit. Call in, and kill it.

This will be the US if the SCREEN Act passes. Call your Senators before August 5 and tell them that you oppose the SCREEN Act, KOSA, and the KIDS Act. Use the official lookup tool at www.senate.gov/senators/sen... to find yours by state.

Hey have you set up, checked and tested your backups? Automated them? Made sure they’re running? Checked the whole cascade works if you have that? Any backup is infinitely better than none.

We have a problem here in Ontario, probably other provinces too, where the training isn't just expensive arbitrarily because its operated privately, but distance too. This just gives more money to private companies. Make the training part of a federal and provincial ministry. Tax payer funded.

Mark Carney posts on twitter: In 2024, over 100,000 new apprentices registered, but only about 34,000 completed their apprenticeship. Time to change that.

Through Team Canada Strong, we’re providing apprentices with a $400 weekly top-up while they are training, and a $5,000 apprenticeship completion bonus when they get their Red Seal certification — helping more young Canadians get trained and onto job sites faster.

Apple charges people ~20% more than the Patreon list price and they keep the difference for themselves. They also hold the proceeds of iOS app sales for 75 days, making it impossible for creators to accurately predict earnings. They basically inserted themselves in order to rip *more* people off

Any of you using the ios version of Patreon to support me, switch to the browser version instead, cuz the apple fees have actually taken over 3000 usd from me in the course of a year

If anyone uses Stripe to get payments, go to your Settings (Gear icon) > Plans and Fees > Radar (View plan details) > View Plans > Scroll to "More Options" and select "Lite" I want none of the money I earn to go to AI if I can help it.

nice, now Stripe is auto-opting people into a nickel charge per transaction for "AI-enhanced" protection shit they never asked for you can change it back to their free "Lite" version, but the fact that it's opt-out by default is so fucking annoying

Maybe the opposite. Rich people don't get a vote anymore. Poor people get to decide everything. Let's see how much they like their ideas then? This is so incoherent and stupid. You're not more of a person just because you have a bigger bank account, you filthy rich fucks. Get over your damn selves.

Very cool that Shopify’s CEO thinks the poor should have far less of a vote than the rich. Still worth that ad read money, folks?

Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke says “good system.” In response to the following proposal:

“Interesting... what about weighted voting proportional to the level of income tax you pay? (no income tax paid - O vote, $1-100k - 1 vote, $100-200k 2 votes and so on... cap it at 5 votes for $500k+. For those that constantly complain about the wealthy not paying tax/fair share they'd have nothing to worry about right? Why not reward representation of taxation and build a democracy around those that foot the bill?”
