Next week is Obon. In Japan, there is a legend that during Obon the dead return from hell. This heat might even be the heat rising from hell itself. And this is the busiest time of the year for temple monks and ghost-story writers. In Japan, people look for tales of the dead in summer.

田辺青蛙『人魚の石』（徳間文庫）を読了。 祖父の後を継ぎ、山寺で僧として暮らすようになった日奥由木尾は、寺の修繕のために池の水を抜きますが、なんと池の底には色白の男が横たわっていました。人魚だと名乗る男に「うお太郎」と名付け、同居生活を送ることになります。 「うお太郎」には、寺の周辺に存在するという不思議な力を持つ石についての知識があり、彼の導きで由木尾はたびたび奇怪な体験をすることになります…。 祖父の後を継ぎ僧侶となった主人公が、人魚を名乗る男と共に、不思議な石の力を体験するという、連作幻想小説です。毎エピソード、それぞれの力を持つ石が登場し、不思議な出来事が起こります。
