who's got a ScanSnap iX1300 and is tired of being forced to use the vendor's bloatware for wifi scanning? i reverse-engineered its wifi protocol & vendor binaries into a single ~1300 loc python script. scans on button press, writes to disk, repeats. no deps, drivers, scanbuttond, sane or USB.

we're getting all the downsides of cyberpunk (social alienation, ruthless hyper capitalism, digital mass surveillance state) but none of the promised upsides (cheap street food, cool jackets, super drugs that make you really fast and strong before they kill you)

if you're into protocols, building social apps or dist systems: i highly recommend reading @danabra.mov's write up. atproto, its history and stewards are one of the very few things in tech nowadays that i really appreciate and respect. also it's fun. dan's post has many examples for that & more :)
