“Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself. (I am large; I contain multitudes.)” ~ Whitman For my sins, I’m back in Missouri.

A lot of talk of Dolly’s good deeds as we damn well should. But I’m also thinking of growing up rural. Smoky Mountain Christmas and Kenny & Dolly specials on TV. Watching Best Little Whorehouse too young to know what a whorehouse was. She was always just a little part of my life. She’ll be missed.

"Parton explained that as well as improving child literacy, “it’s the fact they get recognised. They get this little book with their little name on it in the mail, and they feel special. They start taking pride in themselves, and they know that somebody out there is thinking of [them].” I mean, OMG

I grew up outside Sedalia and now live in Kansas City, so you can trust me when I tell you that the idea of them being in the same district is laughable. Two different communities, two different sets of needs. Which is how you know Missouri Republicans don’t actually care about either of them.

U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s roughly 80-mile drive to Sedalia illustrated the distance of Kansas City’s new, gerrymandered congressional district.

Is there such a thing as being too sad & disappointed to be productive? Because I’ve been in a “if they don’t give a fuck, why should I?” place since that post (For context, my meeting was at 3PM. At 3:05 they said they’d be there soon. At 3:30 I asked if I should reschedule. At 3:45 I rescheduled)

Nothing will make it more clear where you rank at work than setting up meetings with your leadership for assistance, as THEY told you to, and then them showing up 15 minutes late every time, hopping off when they get a call or asking to reschedule at the last minute. I get it. I don’t matter.

Been away from here for a few days because I’m mostly just sick to death of social media bullshit. So of course the first thing I see is a bunch of city folks smugly criticizing “rural culture” while really just describing suburbanites with big trucks. 🙄 Yeah, still sick to death of the bullshit.

So apparently the Onion guy posted about AI today? Some folks took issue with his argument, which…okay. But some folks decided the phrase “spreadsheet people” was an insult? And then someone else claimed it was a gendered insult? Anyway, that’s how I ended up thinking Bluesky critics have a point.

Spittin’ facts. I’ve driven a hatchback for the last 20 years & I won’t drive anything else. Most of that time was with a little Pontiac Vibe which remains my favorite car ever. Had the footprint & gas mileage of a Corolla, but you could fold down the back seat & haul home IKEA furniture. I miss it.

We need to bring back the hatchback. The people don't want sedans. They don't want stationwagons. They don't want SUVs and crossovers. They want indestructible sporty little hatchbacks with carrying capacity that feels like a bag of holding.

Nah, they’re not illiterate or treasonous. They’re not paying attention. They didn’t see it & shrug. They vaguely saw something about Project 2025 out of the corner of their eye in their Facebook feed but they had already scrolled past to pictures of their grandchildren before it even registered.

A full third of registered voters failed a freakin open book test because THEY ARE FUNCTIONAL ILLITERATES and TREASONOUS IDIOTS

Thiiiss. Also, I can’t help but think the way we treat reading like it must be an “enrichment activity” has a little (or a lot) to do with why so many folks don’t read. People feel they must read a Very Serious Book in a quiet room. Meanwhile I’m reading on my phone in line at the grocery store. 😆

Love this "what kind of books count" discourse because none of them count. It's made up! You're an adult and can set your recreational goals however you want to

Saw today’s booksky discourse & it got me thinking, why do folks get so bent out of shape about 100 books a year readers? Someone posts about running 10 5Ks or setting a deadlift PR, it’s all “good job, you!” But let a girl post about a reading goal & its stop bragging. Your books don’t count. Blah

Being a grouchy old perimenopausal lady means sometimes you spend five minutes grumbling about your loud neighbors before you realize the rumbling sound is actually thunder in the distance. Let my irritability win on that one. 😆

Ah, but that’s the beauty of evangelism for a certain subset. As long as they claim Jesus as their Lord & Savior and are born again, they get to say that they’re saved. It’s kinda like Catholics & confession & Last Rites. Sure, you’re supposed to be truly contrite, but technicalities amiright?

That evangelicals are okay with ignoring their Bible is proof they know there is no hell and that their “religion” is a scam!

The first thing we need to do when the Orange Menace is gone is to go back to calling it fraud when CEO’s lie to investors & then regulate accordingly. It’s getting to be late 2026. The early 2030s is just 4-6 years away. It takes damn near that long just to get a factory running here on earth. 🤨

Actual CEO of a space company people actually invest in says "by the early 2030s" -- just 5 to 7 years from now -- there will be mines and factories and large human workforce on the Moon, such that we'll be able to see lights of the lunar city from our front porches fortune.com/2026/08/17/b...

This is the third time I had to move my car all the way over to the other side of the apartment complex because they were supposed to be resurfacing my parking lot. First two times were rescheduled on the day it was supposed to happen. It’s now 9:30 AM and guess what still hasn’t started. 🫤

It’s somehow deeply annoying to feel like you’re have debilitating burnout only to find out you were just low in Vitamin D again & to feel noticeably more functional with just a week of high dose supplements. I’m grateful it’s helping but a part of me is still like “that’s it?! That’s all it took?”
