I think the stated goal of ending food deserts is worthy, but my unpopular opinion is that it would be far more efficient and impactful for the city to simply contract with a (heavily discounted) grocery delivery service than physically operating a small number of grocery stores.

This is really not the way. I’ve seen it many times personally. The bus should move onto the next stop, while they check payment, instead we just sit there.
Those who know me best understand why this is so offensive to me. For a kid who grew up revering institutions like MTA and DOT these fences are emblematic of today's civic culture. There's no pride anymore-- just "it kinda works." Maybe we shouldn't do PSD, but if we do it should be worthy of NYC.

FWIW the fact that 40% or so of passengers do not feel like the trains are "very easy or easy to enter or exit" is pretty damning in-of-itself and would seem to indicate that the barriers should be removed. (Given that MTA used precise numbers elsewhere, I think that "60%+ means like 60.3% lol)

But what really pisses me off is how half-assed the installation is. There are stations with a few of these. Not even along the entire length. It shows they really don't care.

Ughh, Can’t believe Randy and team #wamta are going with effective, proven 20th century designs for their platform barriers instead of the innovative, “lean” concept that we’re rolling out here in NYC. 😒 Have they lost their minds?
The station looks great and accessibility is long overdue, but the $106 million price tag nearly sent me into cardiac arrest.
So the MTA estimates the cost of a 4-mile subway extension down an extremely wide Brooklyn street at $16 BILLION DOLLARS!!! We are cooked. NYC may never build a new subway line ever again.

Taken on Brooklyn's Vanderbilt Avenue on Saturday night. I deeply enjoy how the past two months of sports has showcased the dynamic relationship that New Yorkers have with their streets.
Mothers. Fathers. Friends. Neighbors. All taken away by Trump's ICE.
So much of the discourse around Mamdani is exhaustingly polarized, perhaps even to him. On one side there are the people who insist even the most routine mayoral action is a sign of marxist sharia law. To make up for it, another side has to hype and glaze every breath he takes.
Tuesday night in Bed-Stuy. This is totally normalized insanity that barely even gets media coverage.
More specificity: ➡️Relying on ACS commuter data is problematic bc many people who bike are seasonal or even hybrid commuters ➡️assuming that bike trips have a similar usage profile to cars is... an assumption. ➡️ This completely misses delivery worker trips. ➡️ Citibike only covers a portion of NYC

The city's count relies on simple census data multiplier that only captures commuters; delivery workers and non-commute trips are missed. London extrapolates from counts and multiple data sources to project a figure. See both methods ⬇️
There is a ripe opportunity for progressives and socialists in government to work expediting the pace of capital projects-- a 4+ years for a busway only serves to increase opportunities for friction, watering-down and a slow death by a thousand cuts.
