The feeling of despair when you just spent 75 minutes recording a new book reading for your podcast, only to get to a section and think, “Wait, this bit is so odd yet so familiar…nooooooo!” Yep, read and posted all of that before, in 2024. Dangit! (Other words were perhaps used, as well.)

All true. If you want to support Boring Books for Bedtime on Patreon, please use the desktop version and not your phone/Apple subscriptions if you can. They are making bank off everyone for nothing.

Apple charges people ~20% more than the Patreon list price and they keep the difference for themselves. They also hold the proceeds of iOS app sales for 75 days, making it impossible for creators to accurately predict earnings. They basically inserted themselves in order to rip *more* people off

Patreon now pushes “quips” from creators into your feed, and pushed several into mine from a sleep podcast that is wholly AI. It lists a writer and narrator, neither of whom seem to exist. But it’s on Patreon, which started out to support independent artists? Sigh. It’s Etsy all over again.

For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible. Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.
