Recently scored Catherine Wheel's Chrome on vinyl, and it's the most solid throughline between my 90s sensibilities and my modem metal stuff. Yet also a throughline to the goth and 80s things I sometimes listen to. Almost a skeleton key.

SIGGRAPH-posting: Joining for the Slang BOF (or any of the other Khronos BOFs) today? We're in the JW Marriott, but have been moved from where the SIGGRAPH program lists us: enter via the lobby and keep right, follow the breadcrumb trail of signs up to the Diamond ballrooms! Slang's up at 1:30pm!
As someone of a certain age, it feels really weird to be preparing for a trip to LA and looking forward to the dramatically better air quality there versus home, at the moment. See y'all at SIGGRAPH imminently! Slang will be... a LOT of places: shader-slang.org/landing/sigg...

I've grown accustomed to dystopian shit from Gibson novels showing up in real life, but I think this is the first time something dystopian from my OWN (unpublished, melodramatic teenaged) writing has come to pass.

I don't think bsky gives enough characters, so a selection of the most interesting: empanada, agility, figure 8, Deadpool, octopus, yeti, harness, taco. (Several of those are the names of his toys, which he does distinguish between.) Total words he knows, at a guess... 100?
how many words do you think your dog knows? what are they?
Sockenpaarzwiespaltsfreude: the satisfaction of finding the mate to one of your odd sock pile immediately followed by the despair of adding two more odd socks to the pile as you finish putting laundry away.
For no reason I am remembering the time I was on a business trip with a colleague I didn't really mesh with, to the LA area. Every dinner was some chain like Applebee's, and one dinner he said the sentence "I don't really like music" and I don't think we spoke to each other the rest of the trip.
wow — the preprint host, arxiv, is banning authors for a year if they submit papers with hallucinated citations 🤖
I find this unsettling: A new study in #Lancet shows that the number of faux citations in scientific articles is on the rise, and #AI is likely to blame. @aniloza.bsky.social reports. www.statnews.com/2026/05/07/l...
I'm cheating, because this isn't past, but my alter ego is a ~* musician *~. (Actually maybe it's my primary ego? I was raised by musicians, so maybe this whole tech thing is my alter ego...)
You'd think that you wouldn't be able to tell when people deeply immersed in idiomatic corp-speak start using LLMs to produce their idiomatic corp-speak emails, because it's all leaning on the same very anodyne, soulless vocabulary. You would be wrong.
Conference season has been a blur, but one of the things I'm most excited about is the work @enduringgames.bsky.social showed at GDC -- Slang compiling for consoles! youtu.be/dfRownfn6NY?...

Me: Wow, I feel really drained, like at a personal nadir The universe: LOL. Like, LMFAO. Me: ...oh.
It is March 2026. I'm in the Bay Area for work, under heat advisory, while @meggsomatic.tv is holding down the homestead under tornado watch and area power outages as it transitions from 70F to snow. Boo.
Oh hey, I've been remiss in communicating my schedule on here: I'll be at FOSDEM (not presenting, but definitely showing up for the AI Plumbers room!), then Vulkanised, then GDC+GTC. If you want to catch me for a 1:1 Q, the next two months are a good chance!
I've received a 2025 LinkedIn "Wrapped" style summary, and I think it's safe to say that "Wrapped" style summaries have jumped the shark.
Did not do my annual Thanksgiving spreadsheet, because I was "just doing something quick and easy" since it was just the two of us. Took three hours instead of the forecast 1.5, sustained cuts and burns. Never again will I forsake the Spirit of Thanksgiving TPMs.

Hey Graphics Bluesky! I'm in Breda to give a talk on Slang-- I'm up Wednesday at 16:00. This one will cover Slang's features for making large shader codebases a breeze to work with, and avoiding #ifdef hell. Check it out, or catch me at the conference if you have Slang Qs!

Great blog post! On a related note: If you attend GPC in Breda next week, I highly recommend our talk "Neural Shading for Real-Time Graphics" (www.graphicsprogrammingconference.nl/2025/#neural...)
