Savor the Day was inspired by my daughter, Lisa, who loved the beach & was esp good at savouring the simple joys in life. So today, I'm celebrating this "book birthday" in the best way I can, by savouring it all. ☀️🐚🌊⛱️📚❤️ Picture book, ages 4-8. Illustr by Gabby Grant, published by @sleepingbearpress.

Yesterday I sent a new ms to my agent. It's the first novel-length project I've managed to write since trauma & loss shattered me almost 5 years ago, and honestly, to me it's the clearest evidence my brain and my heart really are healing. I'm verklempt. And I'm so grateful.

It's Banned Book Week in the US, and here in Canada, we need to be standing up against censorship and defending the right to read. If you are a published Canadian author or illustrator, writing for kids or adults, please join Canadian Authors and Illustrators Against Book Bans.

In the #authorlife category of "things that make all the hard work worth it," a 99-year-old fan of SONG OF FREEDOM, SONG OF DREAMS cut out this article about Leipzig and gave it to me because she thought I'd enjoy it. (Leipzig was home to the peaceful protest movement I wrote about in SOFSOD.) 💛🥰

Paperback book with a black cover and white and gold title, "Song of Freedom, Song of Dreams" beside a newspaper clipping of an article by Rick Steves about the German city of Leipzig, with a photo of Leipzig's St Nicholas church (Nikolaikirche).
