Writer. Editor. Keeps things short. Here (mostly) to share #FlashFiction, #ShortStories, writing community. My flash fiction collection, The Map Waits, is published by Reflex Press: https://www.reflex.press/product/the-map-waits/

Here’s Royle on reading favourite short stories: “When I reread them, it’s like lighting a candle, and when I’ve finished reading, the draught created by the closing book blows out the candle and I'm left with a curl of smoke, my memory of the story, which slowly dissipates.” Lovely.

I tell creative non-fiction students that their main job is to get the reader to believe them; I also tell them I can't actually fact-check their submissions: all I can do is evaluate how credible their stories are. So this would be a great book for a non-fiction writer to read. How to be believed.

Swifts eat, sleep, drink, mate, & even bathe on the wing, rarely landing except to nest. They can switch off one half of their brain to rest, swoop low over water to drink, & fly through rain to wash. What extraordinary little birds. #SwiftAwarenessWeek

Congratulations to everyone on the @wigleaf.bsky.social Top 50, and on the long list. My timeline has been a gorgeous stream of sharing and celebration - just like the old days! Looking forward to catching up with these powerhouse flashes
