I hear that EU countries are planning to build their own national LLMs - France (already, with Mistral), Germany, Netherlands, Norway and doubtless others, in the belief that only their own AI model will match their language, culture and security. National necessity, or a waste of money and energy?
From my talks with unis about GenAI, main concerns are data security and accuracy of responses. Worth considering open-model GenAI - free to use, can run locally, now as powerful as GPT-4, no data sent outside, can be customised. Then consider impact of social media on that history. An engaging way to teach contingent histories.
OpenAI has just released a new model. It will impact education because it can do complex reasoning. openai.com/index/learni... Applications include: personalized learning pathways; adaptive assessment, interactive simulations. But - it sometimes makes more errors than the previous (4o) model.
