People who truly think a large language model Ai interface is the best tool for basic search queries actually never learned how to use a search engine properly 🫣

Rumors swirling that Figma is going to release a website builder/publishing feature. Manifesting they show its ROBUST accessibility features and semantic code generation 🫣 guess we will find out in 90 min or so....

The really fucked up part about federal funding to NY State agencies is um.. That's our money??? We give more money to the federal gov than we take back in funding for programs...

listen Figma is great and all but their plugin/developer community will never match what Sketch had at its peak. It was anarchy low key but there was a plugin for anything you could imagine, really.

probably a very good time to say if any displaced federal workers are looking to catch a referral where I work hmu, esp if you are open to hybrid work in Hartford CT, St Paul MN, or Hunt Valley MD 👍👍👍

Can we talk about how unleashing the people good enough to be hired at USDS and 18F on this job market is DIABOLICAL?? guys... That's our top talent in the country. Those positions are PRESTIGIOUS. You don't want to have to compete with them for jobs.

Yesterday I listened Katie Langerman’s breakdown of focus states on the Complimentary podcast. I agree with every single thing she said: 1. Don’t turn off focus states (that’s bad for UX) 2. Browser default focus states suck (not obvious) 3. Custom focus states are an opportunity to do better...

Respect to anyone who works at a studio making custom websites, it clearly was taking me to the brink 😅 I wrote a post in 2017 for my company's blog that rlly captures the unhinged energy in me. 2017 is a blur of client requests and people asking me if Squarespace was going to "take my job".

I filled in a column layout to look really unbalanced and the content of the columns is silly with things like "I am a genius and this column is so long" and "I can have one short column, yes?"

My very very hot take that I really need to find a kinder way to say is if you do UX or front end, call yourself "senior" and accessibility/inclusive design is an "area for growth"... You're not actually senior level. That is a core skill for your field, I fear.

How much Empire State Winter Games aura did I gain from carrying the torch at the front of the parade. Defending my Adult Beginner Free Skate in Lake Placid next week 😤

Push out top talent, make shitty websites, Fall Behind. The rest of the world gives a damn better than we do, which is why the US is going to have to do crazy work to catch up at the other side of this.

This is because they couldn't find a web developer with the base level competency to not make rookie ass mistakes 🙄 when the top tech talent in your own country don't want to work for you.... You make a shitty website. Accessibility isn't just a trend or being "woke"... It's a Core Skill I fear

We're entering a dark period in US #accessibility. The White House home page has a bunch of links with "aria-hidden" and "tabindex=-1". This hides the links from assistive tech like screen readers & makes them unreachable with just a keyboard. Critical #WCAG compliance errors! But who can sue?

Bro has been my professors assistant in Design for the Web for near 5 years and cannot write a damn line of CSS 🙄🙄🙄

Went into InVision one last time today to rescue Mobility Map, my undergrad thesis project, where I initially explored the concepts of accessibility and inclusive design in my work :') Endlessly grateful for this project, all I learned from it, and the direction it set for my career a decade ago.

Word on the street is more people are on here now 👀 here's my dog in a special upright chair we had to make him because his esophagus stopped working

My dog sat in his upright chair, kind of resembles a high chair a child would use

I had a student book office hours with me last week because she felt I was the only person knew "both old enough and young enough" to know how to burn a mix CD AND explain it to her in a way she'd understand 😂
