wilson reviews nolan's movie like she's reading the script as a translation of homer, & not as a movie, imo. like it is a piece of writing solely. sometimes the answers are in the sound, the score, the acting, the edit etc

Ok one thing I will say is that when I watched that scene what immediately struck was the SOUND of women screaming. You don’t see what is happening to them but it is the loudest sound you hear, the whole time.

I do want to pick apart this observation in Emily Wilson's review: "we are not shown that war and killing are bad." This is an odd point to me, given that I found the entire war as presented to be a squalid, poisoned event that has brought everyone involved with it harm despite its glorification
