To the person noting there is not enough money in the world to license every piece of intellectual property stolen for "AI" training: you're sooooo close to the point, friend, keep going, you'll get there if you try

Does anyone at Apple actually use macOS as their OS? There are painfully obvious UX bugs that happen in the most common apps. Messages: resizing the open chat list is wonky as hell. Sometime the drag widget interaction to collapse the list from Icon+Name+Summary to just Icon does not work at all.
There’s way too much music released each week for me to have heard of or know what Choosin’ Texas is. This isn’t a flex, it is an acknowledgment that there are entirely genres of music I know diddly about because the genres I’m into have an overwhelming amount of music in them already.
The ice coffee discourse is really making me re-reflect on @dansinker.com's dansinker.com/posts/2026-0... I think that "everyone/everything social media as a product" has run its course. It is not functioning or working well for anyone anymore.

@schweigbskysocial.bsky.social probably crossed your radar but wargames as... human resources promotion management tool (?) are now a thing: www.militarytimes.com/news/pentago...
Pentagon adds new ‘warfighter’ evaluation for officers seeking first star
Secretary Hegseth announced Tuesday that colonels and captains seeking promotions will undergo a new Joint Warfighter Evaluation.

Your local city officials need to try walking around the schools in their district at arrival and dismissal time. Have them explain to you why the behaviors people driving cars around kids walking, cycling, and scooting are ok. Every time I do this I see adults making the most batshit decisions.
@lastweektonight.com just wanted to say i'm going to miss this show when the Paramount merger is complete.
What the heck are these Messages replies in macOS 27? I have Siri disabled and something is still reading my Messages conversations and suggesting things I should reply to folks. This is not like word-level autocomplete, it is chatbot nonsense. I guess I have to revoke Siri privileges per-app now?
My middle schooler was given an assignment to talk to an OpenAI chatbot about “its science experiment.” She was furious and wrote an email to her teacher asking to be given an alternative assignment on ethical grounds. Are school districts ready for kids to nope out of GenAI?
I'm not quote posting this because I'm not really interested in the AI coding conversation. What caught my interest was the car-centric viewpoint.
@voxparlour.bsky.social have you ever thought about doing a livestream about designing games? Example: I'd love to hear your thoughts about working on USR 3rd edition, Wolves, and revisiting USR 15th. Talking through design decisions that "just worked", things that were more challenging, etc.
I’ve known I needed to get our family off 1password for a while now as the product quality has gone down over the last few years. Time to accelerate my planning though.
feels like it’s inevitable these days that every tool you rely on is one garbage founder or funder away from their app’s version of this post
Professors & researchers’ performance are heavily measured on publishing output. A key data bit is citations - authorship (including position in the hierarchy) and bibliography mentions. Getting this stuff wrong is career ending and it is dangerous we are placing LLMs anywhere in the chain.
Using LLMs in science for “literature review” or “summarizing" is *automated cryptogyny* olivia.science/cryptogyny/ @olivia.science 🧵
Me and my kids are now proud owners of the coolest library card in Los Angeles County.
Was looking at one of my high schooler's AP Language & Composition assignments and it says “Students may use AI as a thought partner only.” 1. Gen/Chatbot AIs are not thinking. 2. Ignoring #1 - what are the boundaries of "thought partner"? Imagine you are 16-17 years old. What does this mean?

does anyone have any climate adaptation/clean energy friends doing/who know about cool adaptation/decarb stuff in germany, belgium, or the netherlands? we are looking for places for our MN delegation to go on our trip at the end of the month

Read 20,000+ Golden Age Comic Books Free Online: Superheroes, Westerns, Romance, Horror, and More
For generations of kids in the twentieth century, few pleasures were as intoxicating as a trip to the comic-book shop with the week's allowance fresh in hand.

I have learned not to crap on graphical user interfaces that seem out of date without first watching someone actually use the thing. You’d be surprised at how well a lot of “outdated” UIs work in practice.
this is what peak user experience looks like. you may not like it, but this is the ideal of interaction design.
This was always going to be the problem with the generative content machine - everything is misinfo now if you disagree with the substance, the author, the publication, etc. When everything has the potential to be faked then nothing has the presumption of authenticity.
So I woke up this morning to find out that Ozzy Osbourne’s son made a video falsely accusing me of using AI to write a Rolling Stone article about the Tate brothers.
Found myself with a little free time so I'm doing world buiding for a Classic Traveller game & I love how lightly sketched things can be. What's a Scout Base for example? 1977 Traveller says very little. The Traveller Book says "Port facility for the support and maintenance of Scout Service vessels"
i would watch the heck out of blade runner musical tho
I have spent the week following this advice (and all other social media) and every day has been 1000% better. I take a look at Bluesky around lunch, find some links that look interesting and move on with my day.
DO NOT read Bluesky first thing in the morning. It fucks up your entire day.
First comment on Manton’s announcement to have Micro.blog users subsidize X.com claims Bluesky is a “den of pedophiles”: www.manton.org/2026/07/13/r... Fascinating armchair analysis given that it was Grok that allowed X users to create CSAM on-demand.

@schiff.senate.gov I’m a constituent and I’m still waiting for your response to the Supreme Court ruling on trans kids’ access to play sports at the state level. I see you responded to the other rulings this morning so clearly you’ve had time to read them all.
Rather than try to pass legislation written by lobbyists from Meta why don't these states go after companies like Meta & X who are the ones causing the problems they are concerned about? Why are they eroding my privacy, my kids' privacy, and further enabling a surveillance state?
Social media companies have shown us they won't step up, so Illinois is stepping in. It's time to pass the Children's Social Media Safety Act.
@capacle.bsky.social Triple-O print edition has arrived and it is lovely! I was just thinking about doing a little Traveller again via a solitaire game and it occured to me it would be fascinating to have Triple-O guide a couple of "players" through the lifepath character generation.
@voxparlour.bsky.social pivoting a bit from USR (which is hard cuz I love that game) - have you ever considered a full featured solo supplement for Romance of the Perilous Land? Osprey has dabbled a bit into solo territory and RoPL has such rich support outside of the core book.
