I am positively verklempt over this news. @hollybruce.bsky.social has been a warrior for active travel in Glasgow and a warm, compassionate and tireless advocate for change at the junction where #EmmaBurkeNewman died in 2023. I could not be more pleased. Ride on, Holly! 🚲 💚💚💚
I endorse the 2026 Pedal on Parliament manifesto, notably: SAFETY: Advanced Stop Lines (aka bike boxes) exist at junctions across Scotland. Drivers edge into them before lights change. Heavy vehicles stop across them entirely. Gone is the protected space and head start a cyclist needs to stay safe.
On 30th May at 11:30am, we Pedal on Parliament for a cycle-safe Scotland. Today, we've released our renewed manifesto - will you join us? ➡️ pedalonparliament.org/our-manifesto/ #ThisMachineFightsClimateChange #PoP26
I'll be biting my fingernails for another fortnight, but Emmanuel Grégoire's decisive showing on Sunday is a win for the notion that a bold idea and the political will to see it through could be exactly what people were always waiting for.

Three years today and the first news story is the death of a cyclist, killed by the driver of a lorry in a collision at a junction in Paris 12e. Coeur brisé, j'envoi toutes mes condoléances à sa famille et son entourage. #EmmaBurkeNewman @accidentsvelo.bsky.social www.leparisien.fr/paris-75/par...
Leaving aside the fact that the person (not an autonomous 'bin lorry') who killed Thomas received only 1 year ban from driving, can we ask why we need to wait for a child to die before road improvements are fast-tracked? Have councillors deciding on @blackfordsaferoutes.co.uk heard of Thomas Wong?

A perfect complement to yesterday’s post: Apparently you can ignore the Highway Code as a professional taxi driver, strike a pedestrian crossing on a green signal, and be allowed to carry on just doing your job. I’m sure the driver is “contrite” though, so all good. news.stv.tv/east-central...

In January 2023, 22-year-old cyclist Emma Burke Newman was killed exiting Glasgow's George V Bridge when a lorry driver making a left turn struck her as she pulled out of the bike box. Yesterday I visited the newly redesigned junction. This change didn't happen by accident. 🧵

Another Monday, another email to my elected leaders about cycling safety. When all we have is paint, could we maybe compel drivers -- and especially those in buses and taxis who require special licensing to operate -- to obey the Highway Code and stay out of bike boxes? Cool, thanks.
