Seeing quite a lot of angry responses to this that seem to assume you have to use it. Firstly, it’s not anywhere near as complex to use as the video suggests; and secondly you aren’t required to use it. It might help a less confident cyclist. It’s a pattern used elsewhere e.g. bottom of Mound.
The City of Edinburgh Council@edinburghcouncil.bsky.social · 2w agoTwo stage right turns for cyclists have been introduced on Summerhall. This will make it safer and easier for cyclists to turn right onto Hope Park Terrace and from the opposite direction on Summerhall, right onto Melville Drive.
#EdTravCyc @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike ⚠️ caution ⚠️ needed on North Bridge headed north. So many raised ironworks and no obvious warning signs (to me at least) could be lethal on a bike if not aware. Also amount of tarmac and road width being reinstated is crazy! No cycle provision or widened pavements

This same theme comes up time and time again, usually with a concern-troll grievance narrative. There is a PhD thesis to be done on perception of transport usage of different social classes.
