Leith Feeder Ride

We organise a feeder ride to Pedal on Parliament each year and post on all things cycling in and around Leith.

While waiting on the extended bus times into town … did some napkin notes. Housing added in/around Leith Connections project since start (and near future): 3x Dockside Buildings Mantle Yard Student Housing Harbour 31 + Businessss New Western Harbour plots Add to it Seafield Regeneration.

Eye-opening explainer on the system and people involved in bicycle food delivery. Not a service I’ve ever used, but it has to be better than using motor vehicles. However, (surprise!) exploitative practices by tech companies are undermining any positives.

If you see anyone in your community punching down on riders of electric bikes. Feel free to share this from Tom Humberstone… Just Work: The Gig Economy, Platform Capitalism and the Battle for Worker Rights tomhumberstone.com/just-work

Leith Walk Voi-d at 8.30am. There is massive latent demand for cycling in Edinburgh, suppressed by dangerous driving, a lack of secure storage, and crowded out by excellent public transport provision. And with the tram out of action and some cycle infrastructure in place - here it is.

On my return - time to start asking questions about progress on Leith Connections P3- Hawthornevale to Seafield. We’ve just seen planning apps for the rest of Western Harbour go in + more transport options are needed W to E as tram suspension has shown + SAFETY = would like to see it finished.

This is good news & nessecery progress. Every pedestrian, cyclist, & road user deserves safe movement. Thank you to all Leith residents who signed the petition, gave testimony & campaigned for a safer Easter Road. Now we just need to deliver it... www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/notorio...

Traffic lights approved for notorious Easter Road junction following fatal crash

The move comes after a number of dangerous road incidents including a fatal hit-and-run in June 2022

This is what it feels like for cyclists using cycle infrastructure in many parts of the UK (certainly in my area - East Dunbartonshire). A short section here, a small bit there. Completely unconnected. Takes you nowhere. Surrounded by roads that feel hostile. This is why more people don't cycle.

An image of an unfinished bridge that only has a section surrounded by water. It has no connections to any other roads. There are cars on the bridge and the drivers are out of their cars looking confused. The water around the bridge is filled with sharks circling around the bridge.
