The possibility that Josh Simons could be close to Andy Burnham's government raises some very serious questions. Should a man who waged factional warfare, spied on journalists and then resigned in disgrace really be at the centre of Government? Feels very Starmer 2.0
The list of key advisers Burnham is rumoured to be recruiting to his court is ominous: Andy Haldane, Jim O'Neill, Josh Simons, Douglas Alexander, Sue Gray & now James Purnell represent the interests of corporate wealth & power not 'ordinary working people'. Expect his Cabinet picks to be the same.
Cream. Especially whipped cream. I can't remember a time when I didn't like the stuff. I love milk, yoghurt, cheese, and other milk products, though. So it's not an allergy issue. Possibly the list contains other foodstuff, but the big one that stands out to me is cream. 🤢
What’s the most widely enjoyed food that you can’t stand, not because of allergies or anything but just because you hate it?
We need to use the word “git” again to describe people
This faux-concerned “we know Father’s Day can be difficult for some, so we have decided to send even more emails about it” trend in email marketing makes me crosser with every holiday.
NEW: Increasing numbers of Labour MPs are doubtful the EHRC's guidance on how to implement the supreme court ruling on sex is workable in the real world, with some predicting it will unleash a wave of competing legal claims. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Ice cube machine has arrived. It's sitting for an hour to let the coolant settle, then it will be set onto the cleaning setting before we can use it. It all seems simple enough. Plus, buying early in the summer means we can use it to its maximum benefit. Even adding ice cubes to soda helps. 🧊
Them: "Of course other cultures did not conceptualise childhood as we do." The Past: "Toys"
Given how many little "big animals on wheels" we've had from all over the world, I think the prehistoric equivalent of "Truck Kid" might be "Ox Kid." (Ukraine, Crete, Maharashtra, Anatolia)
Fucking hell!!!!!!!!!!! 😮😮🤬🤬 This is all on our media, #Reform & our bloody useless #Labour govt who does nothing about the rise of the #FarRight .
Message in the community this morning in Southampton. I live in Shirley and just had a white man knock on my door and ask if I’m Muslim. I refused to answer and he said there’ll be trouble if I don’t co operate. 1/3
Heading for the hills? There will be some great views today but it's still worth checking the forecast. Always check our mountain forecast before heading off bit.ly/3EPIwye
Last night one of the carers was male. Mini-Me hates strange men. But kitty stayed. Mini-Me didn't rush off in terror and remained in the room. Mini-Me was a little nervous, but he stayed in the windowsill the whole time, and only moved once Toni came out from her spot under the bed for cuddles. 1/
Nearly 100 fans from Morocco applied to go the USA. The US blocked nearly 90% of their applications. This is the most racist World Cup ever and it should be boycotted by everyone, the USA is refusing to let non-white people come.
Lovely little thread to brighten your day :)
My day job is at a rural branch of a public library, and we have a Pride display. Yesterday I was at the desk when a man came in. Fifties, maybe, or sixties. Plaid shirt, mesh trucker cap, suspenders. He went up to the display and just stood there for a long moment. Then he came up to the desk. 🧵 1/
It takes a special kind of idiot to lecture other countries about how to win ideological wars when you’re squatting in the gulf with your pants around your ankles
Herb’s older brother, my grandfather, is 102 and served our country in WWII as well (although he didn’t see combat). I know, because he’s told me, how furious he is about this admin’s rhetoric against refugees and immigrants. He remembers well the bigotry his own immigrant-origin family faced.
That feeling of accomplishment you get when you happen to stumble across a couple of ideal birthday gifts that although you're going to have to keep them packed away for a couple of months, fit the birthday recipients perfectly. Good price. Good quality, and all the better for the surprise finds.❤️😊
I love reading about these little gems being found.

This pair of swans near us has tried and failed to produce cygnets for the past three years. So good to see them with their little family finally.
Shropshire is full of diverse farming. Those farmers often saw the need ahead of the large conglomerates, who were regularly left behind because of the local geography/geology, areas of special scientific interest, and other measures Shropshire has implemented. This would be the ideal example. ❤️

I was hoping to have a quiet but productive day doing a few odd jobs. As normal, I haven't the energy I thought I had coming out of hospital, so I'm going back to bed for a wee while in the hopes a nap will help recharge my batteries.
