Happy International Owl Awareness Day. Are you aware of owls?
My copy of this has just arrived, an enjoyable compilation of vintage motorway-themed library music, with Leeds's 'Motorway City' logo on the cover. @leedscivictrust.bsky.social @silverdraws.bsky.social #leeds #M1 @rockingbob.bsky.social
What? Not another Instagram account, Mark? leedsmotorwaycity now exists.
Choose Leeds tees are now with the retailer and tags have just arrived. I’m pretty excited for a Wednesday evening.
My friend is currently nearing the end of a 50-mile run in the Lakes, while I managed an equally impressive 12-mile trudge around the city centre.
In other news, I’m getting near to the end of the first run of my first product, the Leeds Goth enamel pin badge. Now a museum piece, only 500 classic badges (left) will ever exist. The new one (right) is smaller (and more elegant) with a raised, polished enamel face. I need to update my shop.
On Monday, I popped in to Northern Guitars for a long overdue official opening of the legendary Joseph’s Well venue sign I rescued in 2024. Huge thanks to Alex Sobel MP for doing the honours, and to Rick, Dave and Danny of Northern Guitars for arranging. I like to think we look like a band.
This first though. Eastenders needs a reboot, too.
Howard’s Way.
They’ve brought back Bergerac. Eldorado will follow soon, mark my words.
Blimey, these have turned out nice. And I don’t mean my lovely blue filing cabinets.
Banging on about Leeds Goth stuff (haven’t stopped), the viral Burger King menu post, Alan Bennett the spinosaurus and Zombles.
Gutted that I can’t wear hi-vis. Never went to U2, Springsteen or Simpleminds. But was there at the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Jacko and even Genesis (who I was not a fan of). Its taking linger to set up and take down. A month of disruption. And the park has been closed off two week prior. Let’s see
As Roundhay Park gets ready for the return of large crowds next weekend, here’s a reminder of U2’s two huge concerts held there in the 90s. The has band played the city eight times, starting with Brannigans in 1980, followed by an appearance at the second Futurama festival at the Queen’s Hall.
There should be a carbohydration break. #worldcup
What on earth happened to U2? No, I don’t mean the well-documented, extremely patchy last 20-25 years or so. More the last few months and how the two recent EPs are bloody good.
Also, there’s something in the pipeline that will neatly mark three years exploring and championing Leeds’ goth heritage. My goth journey won’t end, of course, but this will feel like a fitting end to the first phase.
This was last year’s Heritage Open Days event. The Bridges of Leeds audio trail is still live and will continue to be here: leedsnomad.com/bridgesofleeds This year’s HODs event follows the same format. It’ll be another city centre audio trail, this time focused on alternative music in Leeds.

Heritage Open Days is always an opportunity to try new things. Bridges of Leeds has been a lot of work, but so nice to collaborate with my brother, who researched and wrote all twelve bridge stories. Huge thanks to Leeds Civic Trust for the funding. Join in at LeedsNomad.com
I see @countbinface.bsky.social has already discarded his mask. Better luck next time. Mind you, it is a bit warm for a mask today.
