Guy who always calls James Cameron “James”: Went to go see James’ Avatar yesterday! Another military contract for AI companies, things are looking more like James’ Terminator 2 all the time 🙁

If you don’t know much about how transphobes operate you’d be surprised how essential “social contagion theory” is to their claims of legitimacy, and what a load of shit it is. Julia Serano’s been debunking transphobic junk science for decades and I hope her video on this reaches a lot of people

I would *love* for this to become a top search result for trans "social contagion" & "grooming" – please watch it tonight (while it's still newly released) to help convince the YouTube algorithm to make this happen!

I support this congress in particular being the one to make daylight saving time permanent. This is real "Only Nixon could go to China" stuff. Let the Republicans get yelled at for implementing unfailingly noticeable yet wonkish changes to the fabric of nearly the entire county for once

anton chigurh: heads or tails. you must chose. me: is that a Prince Valiant cut? anton: yeah it used to have more volume me: you want to use something light on it, no silicone-heavy washes and of course... both of us (laughing): blow dry from the roots! me: alright heads anton: it's tails

hey so if you hate how Fandom wikis are bloated resource hogs i just learned you can go to "antifandom.com/whatever" and it loads a clean, ad and video-free proxy of the page

Random Access Memory: One day my sister’s husband calls me. Nice guy, when I’m out visiting we talk a bit. I pick up, he wants to know what Jollibee is. He saw an ad for one several towns over, hadn’t heard of it before. Has never called me before or since. Perfect interaction.

Seeing a lot of "Why don't legislators make the internet safer for everyone instead of banning kids from it?" and this is why. The people lobbying for these bans don't want any changes how the internet works for them personally, they want to control who gets to use it

A lot of the “kids online safety” proponents actually are anti-LGBTQ extremists and fundamentalists who want kids to have less freedom and don’t care if that actually makes them tremendously less safe too

Considering renewing my MLB tv subscription solely for Jung Hoo Lee. This is a vile Giants season, but Lee is doing All-Star stuff right now, and he was already fun to watch before

A director I'm watching with interest right now is Damian McCarthy. In an era where making original films is extremely difficult he's made 3 since 2020, including the wonderful Hokum that just came out this year. Gonna thread a few things that stand out to me about how he's working:

Let’s do a few movie recs for Pride Je Tu Il Elle (Akerman 1974) feels like the kind of experience you might have on the early web: A small intimate window on someone who’s retreated from the world and gone a bit feral alone in her room while she works on something emotionally. And then she leaves

Podcast idea: Just release every episode of Frontline as a podcast We've had all the discussions about how famous PBS voices like Bob Ross and Fred Rogers can serve as audio comfort food but we left Will Lyman out of the discussion

Here is Tom Steyer personally supporting high school trans athlete AB Hernandez. I don't think I've ever seen a candidate as brave as Tom Steyer in his explicit support for trans folks. It says a lot that it took a self funded billionaire not dependent on donors to do it.

I’d use the money to actually build a bunch of conceptual architecture that’s never existed. Anything by Lebbeus Woods, anything from a weird video game. This would make me happy, and there’s a risk it could make others happy, but given the nature of public art it will surely make more people mad

THE WIZARD IS BACK! You have been cursed with a lot of money! You are going to become not just permanently brain damaged, but SUPER evil, incapable of doing good, if you use the money for anything that isn't ridiculous. To break the curse, you must spend it on something ridiculous. What say you?

Late night Criterion Channel posting: Finally watching “Jeanne Dielman” and so far my biggest wish is to see the view from her dinning room window. What are those flashing lights? Great way of reminding us of the hustle and bustle of Brussels, even as she moves carefully through everything
