As someone with unpaid care responsibilities, I found this article beautiful. The love between the couple—through all their challenges—is undeniable. Life’s stories may have many endings, but new beginnings can still be full of promise. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

I wasn’t wowed by Disclosure Day, but I’ll be damned if @mangiotto.bsky.social’s review didn’t make moi appreciate it a little more—especially his reflection on Jane and a woman’s right to bodily autonomy. An okay Spielberg film, but a majestic review. filmfreakcentral.net/2026/06/disc...

In many respects, 2025 was a tough year for moi—and many others alike—and one I am happy to lay to rest. However, in spite of the challenges, cinéma still retains its capacity to replenish, and 2025 was another blisteringly great year for film fans.

My first proper play on my new SEGA Saturn and I opted for ‘Loaded’. This is such a ridiculously mid-to-late ‘90s video game. It wreaks of lad culture ‘attitude’. Played through the first three levels. Fairly fun but can see this getting tedious. However, the soundtrack is ‘gnarly’ 🤦🏻‍♂️

Loaded SEGA Saturn box. Cap'n Hands surrounded a bloody mess. 100% kill count. The Loaded results screen.Cap'n Hands has all the key cards.

Scorsese's Film Foundation is currently screening the 4K Restoration of THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH (Corman, 1964). I loved the film's colour palette and the DoP was none other than Nicolas Roeg! This before and after comparison of the restoration really demonstrates the improvement achieved.

Enjoyed Sept’s Film Foundation screening of HER MAN (Garnett, 1930). What I admired most was the camera’s movement; easy to take for granted in 2023, but the cameras of the 1930s were huge, so the scene in the bar where the camera follows a waiter delivering some drinks, is especially striking.

An image of a man unconscious, possibly drunk, lying next to a bench. A still from the film, HER MAN (Garnett, 1930).
