Circling

Yesterday’s rain left a silver skin
on the dustbin lid,
a sky in miniature
where roses drown in moonlight.

You are lightning:
bright, certain,
striking where you choose.
I am thunder:
slow, echoing,
arriving after the flash cools.
The roses offer their scent
as if to quell the coming tempest.

We circle each other
in the garden,
two storms
with different languages.

The roses bow their heads
as if they know
we were never meant
to share the same sky.

This is the argument
no one can win:
lightning cannot wait,
thunder cannot hurry,
and the distance between them
is the whole night.

And now I feel I want to tidy that up
Cos it’s a bit messy.

Fire forms crystals
In your eyes.
Just you.
Just you seeing the hell
Of
Your own Ice and fire.
Alone together in the scare bound
Horror of your past.
Like some hell bound version
Of your ice bound prismatics,
These people in your life
Only
Follow the folly of parents past.
As far as you can see.
As far as you can tell.
We’re all still in hell.

But when I last looked
Life was good.
Mum died sure enough
And your husband nearly died.
But yesterday the sun shined
And
I ate the best seafood.
It’s only you
Who
Lives in Hell.
I’m done with this.

Evenfall

The sun didn't set
So much as it fell
And I bore witness
And I said nothing

The air dropped from pleasant
To decidedly chilled
And I felt it change
And I said nothing

All just out of step
In a no more than a single step
offensively obvious
And I stayed silent

I didn't approve
I just didn't engage
I spun like a child
On the ball of my foot

I walked away
Out of step
In the cold
In the dark

A cancer grows

Slick
With time’s slackening

Trip.
Sad to see

Our destiny
Entwined with inevitability.

The news acquire.
Hundreds of thousands virus riddled
joined them.
Thousands more bodies blasted in bits and burned alongside.
A multitude shrunk to corpses just still alive before they too died.

Would they raise up leached bony
Hands in a fist of rage
And shriek
“No more
No more
No more!”
Or
Just the silence of the grave
Endure.
