Poet. Dramatic but lazy. Wistfully nonchalant. Passionately disinterested in oxymorons.

First time I saw this man perform he talked the ears off us at a Bob Dylan concert— but to hear him sing! Glorious. Last time I saw him was at a pub lock-in in Dublin, where he got everyone up to sing with him & made magic of a mundane evening. What a gem, we'll miss you Glen. 😓😓 💔💔💔

Life Carries On

I don’t know why I’m still here.
Some days I think it’s spite.
Others, because the dogs need feeding,
the bin needs taking out,
and the kettle’s already halfway to boiling.

I’ve learned to live in the small things.
The hum of the fridge,
the ache in my knees on cold mornings,
the way the light lands on the washing up
and makes it look like art.

I’ve been broken in places
no one ever saw.
I’ve stitched myself up
with words I never read aloud.

Poems folded into notebook corners.
Unwitnessed outpourings at three a.m.,
while the rest of the house
snores me a soundtrack.

They were never for anyone else.
Just me.
A way to bleed cleanly,
to scream unheard,
to remember I was still here.
I’ve been the girl who left,
the woman who returned.

the daughter who watched her parents fade,
wallpaper curling in the sun.

The wife who watched her husband heal,
a bright dawn after a long night.

The mother who watched her children bloom,
soaring foxgloves dancing in sunlight.

I’ve been the one who stayed, when staying
felt like drowning.

I don’t pretend it’s easy.
but I’ve seen enough storms
through these windows
to know I am safe in my home.
and when the next one comes,
I’ll find my footing.
I always do

Thanks to Ronnie for last week's #PromptCombo. This week tag me, @emteepoetry.bsky.social for the prompt #Perseverance. I'm including a poem of mine published about a year ago in The Poetry Lighthouse 🙏 and a photo I took back in January Looking forward to reading your poems!

I used to believe in messages written in the stars; signs like shells washed up upon the sandy shore I don’t believe that anymore, but one thing I know for sure is you exist in this world and that’s sign enough for me to believe I’m meant to exist too #MPPrompt

My soul contains a wobble like the unsteady leg of a table— keeping me off-balance, always set up for a fall I once tried to stick a beer mat under it, but the stability unnerved me turns out my soul only knows how to traverse this world just a little bit off kilter. #mpprompt

What more of the universe's signs need I divine when I see you in every sunrise? when each soft breeze through the trees whispers your name when the moon smiles your smile & the stars twinkle with the light in your eyes when I find you woven like a golden thread through everything. #mpprompt
