If you’ve ever enjoyed a sports simulation games, this may be your last chance to pick up SMB4 for cheap. It’s excellent. The first 3 were indie games, and EA gave Metalhead Studios the budget they never had to make 4 shine. But the franchise is dead now that EA is sold and in debt.

@polykillpodcast.bsky.social #JustBeatIt Fire Emblem: Road to Ruin (GBA, 2014) is a FE7 hack created by Primefusion. The characters and weapons were cool and maps were interesting. But the first 10 chapters were too hard, and I didn’t want to rely on save states as much as I did. Took ~40hrs. 7/10
It’s wild to ask $60 for these “upgrades.” You do not need an improved frame rate or improved visuals on a pixelated turn-based RPG. Even if you had both versions, I don’t think you’d even notice a difference if played the SW1 version on a Switch 2.

For example, it sadly locks the higher difficulties behind the easy ones. But the tennis itself is great! 7/10
@polykillpodcast.bsky.social Luminous Arc (Nintendo DS, 2007) is a fun Tactical RPG that does some cool things and has an interesting story, though one of the voice actors should be in jail for his crimes. Nikolai almost made me throw this cartridge into the garbage, but I’m glad I #JustBeatIt! 4/5
@polykillpodcast.bsky.social #JustBeatIt Dark Deity (PC, 2021) is a classic Fire Emblem-like that eschews the standard weapons triangle in favor of unit-based armor types, and each unit has 4 promotion options instead of 2-3. @gohobogo.bsky.social is right, this game is pretty dang good! 4/5
I’ve been on an island for about a week, and I’ve been putting some major time into Luminous Arc (2007) on my Nintendo DS XL. There’s something really great about the DS and its library that’s unlike anything you can play on today’s modern consoles.

Micah McCurdy @hockeyviz.com · 6mo agoArtemiy Panarin (traded to Los Angeles) is an extremely strong forward, especially offensively. Generation at 5v5, at 5v4, setting, finishing, drawing penalties, keeping his team out of the box, the works. An exceptional player.

CrossCode might be my favorite indie game, but it has a rough, confusing intro before it sings. The combat, puzzles, and story are great, but the accessible difficulty options are a real star, allowing you adjust both combat damage and puzzle timing by 10% increments. 90% was just right for me!
