Progressive & disticntly left-leaning in a broad sense: conservation & sustainability, democracy & electoral reform, mutualism, intersectionality, market socialism, economic & social equity and critical thinking.

The Phillips curve says you need unemployment to control inflation. That's the choice we're told we have to make. But it's a false one. The Job Guarantee replaces unemployment as the price anchor with paid public work at a fixed wage. #MMT #UKGreenParty #Economics #UKPolitics

"Unlock billions" makes it sound like a vault. It's a timetable. Westminster issues the pound, so the £39bn waits on an election, not a bank balance. Housing associations are ready to build. The real limits are builders and land, not cash. #MMT #UKGreenParty #Economics #UKPolitics #UKEconomics

Labour chair of housing committee calls for urgent funds for affordable homes in England | Housing | The Guardian

Exclusive: Abena Oppong-Asare urges chancellor to unlock billions of pounds, as housing associations say they could build 41,000 homes in 10 years

A £500bn spreadsheet error is funny. The bigger error is the frame: net zero as a bill to "afford". Pounds aren't scarce. Steel, grid engineers and installers are. Count those. Westminster issues the pound and can fund the lot. #MMT #UKGreenParty #Economics #UKPolitics Source: Guardian Politics

Baroness Hazarika: "Burnham is evoking a Clement Attlee post war lets build something like the NHS" After 5 years of war Attlee nationalised around 20% of the entire British economy (as well as founding the NHS & establishing the welfare state). Burnham won't even take water into public ownership

"Credible to markets" is a strange test for the government that issues the pound. Gilt yields are a policy choice, not a verdict. The Bank sets rates and can buy gilts. The real limits are resources and inflation. #MMT #UKGreenParty #Economics #UKPolitics #UKEconomics Source: Guardian Business

Go back 20 years: Tony Blair is fighting the battle that will end his leadership and get him ousted, insisting that the 2006 Lebanon war is a principled battle for freedom - US crank Condoleeza Rice says it’s “the birth pangs of a new Middle East”. The UN ceasefire vote looks like this.

All the world voting for a ceasefire; the UK, the US and Israel voting against

In this regard, we haven’t moved an inch since circa 2002: also full of noisily centrist moderates full of anguish at the refusal of random members of the public to condemn this or that on the internet. Has anything else happened in the intervening two and a half decades?

That substantial portions of the European and
US Left struggle with the idea that it is possible to condemn criminal actions by the Israeli government while also condemning the vicious brutality of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranian regime continues to baffle me.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot: “The United States and China, through massive amounts of storytelling, make sure the whole world knows that they are at the cutting edge of technology. “Yet every day in France we see a completely different reality. So it is up to us to tell that story.

Bond yields are soaring because central banks raise rates, not because debt is too high. Austerity will deepen shortfalls. Why is the currency issuer letting interest costs spike instead of anchoring rates? #MMT #UKGreenParty #Economics #UKPolitics #UKEconomics Source: Guardian Politics

I’m sorry, but this is a fantasy. The *entire point of all this* for ten years has been 1) Absolutely fuck you, the left does not get any kind of power, ever, 2) We will do and say literally anything, whatever it takes, to ensure this never happens and 3) Britain does what America wants, full stop.

Let me try this once more.
It was a choice.
EITHER the Greens adopted a slogan.
OR they could have joined the next govt, where they could push for an end to arms sales, sanctions, support for the arrest warrants etc.
It was never going to be both.
Which one makes a material difference?

Some people here don't seem to have understood the purpose of a political party.
It's not the same as a protest movement.
It is a vehicle designed to get into
government, to change legislation and make a material difference to the lives of people at home and abroad. 2/2

This General Election the Labour Party were never going to team up with the Greens, as they’ve much more in common with Reform & the Tories… No, if you want a fair, just and corruption free government, this country MUST go Green!! www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Labour figures rule out working with Greens after ‘Zionism is racism’ vote

Minister says they could not see parties cooperating, while official says coalition should be formally ruled out

Yeah the thing is, a lot of us think this wasn't a great move, but the absolutely bonkers off the wall reaction to it by the *sensible moderates* is the real problem here. Just being led by the nose by their fash colleagues.

Again: I didn‘t support the motion, but the idea that without it, Hannah Spencer and Mike Tapp would’ve been sitting round a camp fire holding hands and singing together seems… optimistic

I have no strong view on a preferred outcome here - “stop the massacre and destruction” feels like the immediate priority - but I invite readers to note the result of decades of nice libs wishing for two states is their own governments assisting in genocide, ethnic cleansing and massive destruction.

Spend more than £1bn to "help" frames public provision as a budget constraint. Real question: why isn't energy publicly provided or subsidised at source? A currency issuer doesn't ration help. It builds capacity. #MMT #UKGreenParty #Economics #UKPolitics #UKEconomics Source: Guardian Politics
