Historically, liberals have welcomed the promotion of the far-right within traditional right-wing parties, believing that this would make them unelectable. This was always a disastrous mistake. Nazis used any position ceded to them - even at the lowest level - to build support for fascist pogroms.

Do centrist Dems realize that the incentive structure they're establishing by admonishing one of the few major Arab American figures who unequivocally endorsed Harris despite nothing being conceded on Gaza? The lesson for those Arabs will be to uh, not do that again.

This should be seen in its proper context. It’s long been normal for the press to treat far right crackpots and straight fascists as valuable authorities on extremism, and to present them to the public as anti-radicalisation and as antiracists. They’ve been doing it for at least ten years.

Hodges is an occasionally useful guy to keep an eye on, mainly because he’ll say things that his less stupid colleagues are smart enough to keep to themselves.

This is another way we live in rape culture; we live in a culture where we have to hear about monstrosity all the time. Sometimes I look at those top stories lists and wonder if I'm the only one who notices that two or three or four of the ten are about violence against women.

Here is the problem. Even if any of these people wanted to ignite the all channels screaming hate campaign against Badenoch over this, they wouldn't be able to get the rest of the lads to join in. And so they need to come up with some reason why not, that isn't "we only do that to left wingers."

The answer is, of course, that very little in British politics is actually real except for expediency and convenience. It’s not a double standard because *there are no standards*, and there are no rules that apply to everyone. There’s only ever what’s entertaining the lads this week.

Members of the public are fully entitled to ask why the entire national press - who went into an 18-month terrifying panic about racism and bigotry, squealing in pant-soiling terror that even a trace of prejudice in public life was utterly intolerable - can talk about this calmly like it’s no biggie

This is one of the better, more helpful newspaper podcasts and it’s striking they - like all of the lads - talk about Farage and Lowe without any squealing and writhing about the cancerous virus of race hate that must be ruthlessly eradicated, or about the legion of evil scum who support them.

This, while all the lads on the newspaper and magazine politics podcasts are talking about The Return Of Two-Party Politics as if it was a natural phenomenon and not a decision they have reached amongst themselves

I really wish people would get it through their heads that beyond a certain threshold, raising enormous amounts of money in a campaign offers, almost no marginal benefit per dollar. It just buys more ads, usually targeted at voters already saturated with ads.
