I'm in Graz this week for #ECMTB26 and am presenting three (yes three!) things. I have a poster on Tuesday on mathematical biology in health economics, I'm talking on Wednesday about vaccine uptake patterns in the ONS Covid-19 Survey, and on Friday I'm speaking about spatial mapping of avian flu.

Congratulations to Prof Gareth Evans for receiving an MBE for services to Cancer Genetics in the King’s Birthday Honours. Prof Evans pioneered & implemented innovative NHS services for patients with inherited cancer predisposition syndromes, most notably breast, ovarian cancer & neurofibromatosis.

Joe Hilton University of Manchester Joe Hilton is a research fellow in mathematical modelling at the Manchester Centre for Health Economics (MCHE) within the University of Manchester, with a background in infectious disease epidemiology. He is interested in the role of population heterogeneity in different aspects of public health, ranging from household-level patterns of viral transmission to risk-stratified screening and treatment programs for non-communicable diseases. His research includes case studies of specific diseases, outbreaks, and policies, as well as methodological work focused on developing new techniques for modelling and inference, with a focus on stochastic processes and Bayesian statistics. A key component of Joe’s role within MCHE is to bridge the gap between health economics and mathematical epidemiology, both by developing new standards for simulation and uncertainty quantification in health economic analyses and by bringing economic insights about the value of interventions and information into the study of infectious disease control policies.

If you are visiting the United States, having a negative view of Trump is enough to get you denied entry. If this was coming out of Russia or China, we would deplore such an authoritarian attack on freedom of expression.

Not sure if its a feature, a bug, or just because I don't follow enough people yet but my favourite thing about this site is that occasionally you reach the end of it. Like you have the discover tab to find out everything that's going on in the world, get annoyed and then it just runs out

As part of PhDs and fellowships it's seen as a good thing to go on research visits. When I was writing my fellowship application I wanted to work this in but as a parent with young kids it's difficult to spend a big chunk of time abroad. So I'm trying to do more frequent short visits instead 1/n

Gave a talk at a PPI day yesterday. We did an icebreaker where everyone had to draw what "cancer research meant to them". All the researchers drew test tubes/computers/stethoscopes and the PPI group all drew things about hope, happiness and making people's lives better.
