Liquid shader is back for the CS2 charms, this time with not-fake physics and not-fake refraction!* *it's all fake, it's a videogame
This is a great thread @hillsguy.bsky.social, I'll add a bit more context here for anyone interested. Yes there's no fancy sim - it just uses a water interaction buffer as a target for the particle system rendering, so we could use the power of particle system we already have.
Decided to check out how water is rendered in Counter-Strike 2. Given how interactive water in CS2 is, I expected to see some cellular fluid simulation, but turns out they just use a low-resolution off-screen buffer with flat 2D decals used for various aspects of water. Reminds me of HL2 water :)
My cat tree has fruited! Does anyone know if this plump beauty is ripe for the picking?
How's it going on twitter sorry the everything app sorry twitter

Genuine question @dominos-pizza.bsky.social : Is that stuffed crust or classic?
Clearing out my parents house which isn't much fun, but it was heartwarming to see my mum kept hold of the t-shirt I made with Peter Beardsley's cock and balls hanging out
Subtle things to make your shaders better: 1) Anti-aliasing - Real life is not limited to pixels so unless you're specifically going for a pixelated style, you should be anti-aliasing everything! mini.gmshaders.com/p/antialiasing
Post you from a different era. I suppose I still do colouring in, in a way
Post you from a different era (😅)
I cannot tell you how much work this was. I hope everyone enjoys it. There's some insane stuff in here. Half-Life 2: 20th Anniversary Documentary youtu.be/YCjNT9qGjh4
Hi all! Just three days left until Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White is available for sale (while supplies last). Here's a quick look at the exclusive white carrying case + removable inner lining (slim case). Add it to your calendar here: store.steampowered.com/steamdeck
I just ran Sky Follower Bridge again (Chrome extension that finds Twitter user accounts on here) and the amount of people who have accounts that didn't a few days ago is amazing
We had fun making some rain fx in the new CS2 de_train, maybe I should a breakdown?
I'm enjoying it here so far, everyone is very nice and it does feel like the other place a few years ago. Though I didn't expect to make the gaming news by posting an old clip from ITVoG - and apologies for opening old wounds!
Is video compression even worse over here? Any tips for dealing with that?
More recently I worked on the CS2 water and effects. I hope to share some more CS2 (and other) shader work here (and not there) in the future.
I do often tend to work on liquidy things - this was the water test we did at Campo Santo pre Valve move
The Half Life Alyx booze / liquid / bottle shader which I worked on at the start of the Covid lockdown and got a ridiculous amount of attention
It's annoying but I'm going to leave that other place or at least stop posting there while the baddies are in charge and give this place a try instead. I'll add a couple of my old things to get started. Anyway, hi!
