Kingdom Hearts 1 is only bad if you don't have it in your soul to enjoy PS1 era Square Soft RPGs and 3D platformers
the thing about kingdom hearts is that no, for the most part the story isn't actually hard to follow if you just play all the games in order. but there are a LOT of games, and this is not a barrier to entry that many other game series really have, especially among RPGs
i fear a lot of nostalgic fans aren’t understanding that “kingdom hearts anime” being announced in 2026 does not mean a simple and heartwarming adaptation of the kh1 storyline starring sora donald and goofy with riku and kairi it means tetsuya nomura’s buggyesqe torture funhouse of esotericism
