This article is hilarious. First, panic over a reseller buying used books for destructive scanning by AI companies because they must be rare books, but turns out none are particularly rare, booksellers are happy to get rid of them, and the reseller has nothing to do with AI cos or digitization

Weren’t they all crowing about how LLMs can’t do math, the one thing computers are good for? Like they’ve never thought about how anything works a day in their lives, just floating through existence on a cloud of other people’s work

The common sentiment on here is that they're absolutely useless and are always wrong but that is becoming increasingly separated from reality. This is just the last 2 months.

conservatives once again being emotional and mad about the symbolism rather than the actual reason. copyright is why these books are being destroyed, and digital copies are kept from the public they are buying ISBN stock, which are books 1970~ and onward, not rare ancient historic books
