This government is naive about what is coming. Famine, armed conflict, disease and natural disasters are basically the horsemen of the apocalypse, greed is idolatry, and hell is a hotter climate. Not to get too Christian with it. Point being: 34M is a pittance www.ctvnews.ca/canada/artic...

Federal government announces $34M to help communities cope with climate change

The federal government is spending $34 million on projects to make Canadian communities more resilient to the effects of climate change.

NEW: Doug Ford railed against his own MPPs for claiming hotel stays in downtown Toronto, telling them they'd all have to pay it back. The thing is, it was actually the government that told them to use the perk in an email last year. #Onpoli globalnews.ca/news/1197496...

Ford government advised its MPPs they could use hotel benefit for night sittings | Globalnews.ca

For more than a week, government MPPs have been facing scrutiny for charging downtown Toronto hotel stays to the taxpayer instead of commuting to and from Queen’s Park.

The PCs are having a bad time. The corruption isn’t new but it’s sticking to them for the first time (hotel charges, Dunlop’s disaster interview). When voters look at who to turn to, it will be the NDP who have been putting feet to fire this whole time.

Friendly reminder that to the extent these extreme climate events are ominous portents of things to come, they are also reality *today*, and will not only become more frequent but their nature will get more extreme as well.

PM Carney is once again supporting U.S. violence and impunity. Canada can’t control Trump’s chaos. But we can take a clear stand for lives, livelihoods, international law and global stability. New Democrats say: stop the war. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Carney backs latest U.S. strikes on Iran as Trump slams NATO allies | CBC News

Prime Minister Mark Carney endorsed the latest U.S. strikes on Iran as a justified response to ceasefire violations, even as President Donald Trump declared the truce finished and accused NATO allies ...

I do not appreciate Carney, who’s been obscenely wealthy his entire adult life, lying about what one of the richest nations ever can and cannot afford. He’s just laundering his view that the incumbent oil sector must be protected for national unity at the expense of vulnerable people.

If you want to ragebait yourself, watch this. It’s a lot of fear mongering and bullshit to say, effectively, that we’re doing a shock doctrine and we’re abandoning our climate targets. Happy Canada Day Eve, everyone.

Among other things, if kids under 16 are especially susceptible to online misinformation that’s completely outweighed by their abject lack of power. QAnon isn’t mostly kids! The most dangerous conspiracy theories are spread and believed by adults!

Dems' "Project 2029" first major policy proposal: an online child safety plan — narrowing Sec. 230, banning social media for kids under 16, promoting phone-free childhoods and more. Already backed by Cory Booker, Mikie Sherrill, Randi Weingarten + Jonathan Haidt. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

What's bugging me about the whole empty condo debacle is that I bet, if Carney had gone up and said "I am going to legally expropriate and seize all these empty condos for affordable housing" the same people complaining now would probably love it, even if the payoff to developers was the exact same.

I’ve never gotten over that the member of congress for Manhattan’s financial district has the last name Sachs Goldman. Too on the nose the other way around. I’m excited for him to lose badly tonight

Just as fossil fuel interests and their political allies are responsible for excess deaths, it’s important to note that Delanoë + Hidalgo likewise will have certainly saved lives by the end of this heatwave by applying lessons from the 2003 heatwave disaster and planting trees/removing asphalt

The government buying privately-developed housing units is a legitimate way to create social housing. Prices have not yet been negotiated. To the extent that most housing in Canada is private, should market downturns be allowed to cripple an industry building public amenities like housing?
