The biggest mental shift transition caused for me was "This matters now." Nothing to do with gender, sex, presentation, or anything like that. It turned the idea of something like happiness from a nebulous, aetheric thing that sometimes passed through me into something I could reach out and grab.

This means that in order to achieve happiness you actually have to put in the effort of love, socialization and self-criticism. All of which will still be painful and fraught with difficulty.
