Ancient historian, now a temple attendant for two dainty-pawed gods who sometimes make their epiphanies. Looking for more honesty and less malice in politics, but getting this thing instead.

One of the most horrifying and underreported tragedies of this time is the torture and murder of innocent men, women, and children under the guise of immigration control. Thank you to folks like Reich and @gillianbrockell.com, who work hard to keep this horror in focus when many would rather forget.

A second man, Edwin Lopez-Cornejo, has died at Delaney Hall, the inhumane ICE detention center run by private prison contractor GEO Group. GEO Group’s profits have soared by over 700% since Trump has been back in office. Imagine profiting from death and suffering. Deplorable.

Flabbergasting. 10 yrs after a freakshow of a personal trainwreck won the presidency by the narrowest of margins in their own damn state, Michigan voters are still casting ballots in large numbers for somebody they know can't win. I do hope the 'message' they're sending...somebody...gets recorded.

Tabulation of the votes in Michigan's Democratic Senate primary: 48.5% for Abdul El-Sayed, 47.5% for Haley Stevens, and 4% for the candidate who withdrew from the race last month, Mallory McMorrow.

as disturbing as these terrorposts are, remember that this cosplay james bond airhead started out as a dimestore ragebait troll and is only a somebody because fascism elevates nobodies he is maga in miniature: a loser who rose through party ranks to become a mover; a mediocrity playing make believe

Co-host of Charlie Kirk’s podcast whose book was blurbed by DJT, Jr and JD Vance. Don’t call them fascists though.

Bombshell new report out from my investigators this morning spanning our four year investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s financial records. This report shows exactly how Wall Street protected Epstein and enabled his sex trafficking for decades. Mega thread following with some key points:

Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan, BofA Enabled Epstein, Wyden Report Says

Democrat Ron Wyden cited nonpublic documents held by the US Treasury in a report that says banks delayed reporting suspicious financial transactions and calls for tougher anti-money-laundering rules, ...

Really striking body language here that I read as distancing. Head cocked to the left & angled like that is something I v rarely do, basically when listening to somebody relating something incredible or extremely weird. If I'm *talking* in this posture? It's a big FU and the horse you rode in on.

Max Miller is denying all the allegations against him and you can tell he's sincere because of the popped collar.

Mike Miller looking extra douchebaggy

"No rigorous application was needed. An email...would suffice. ...executives across major industries began flooding an inbox [asking] that their facilities be excused from expensive Clean Air Act requirements [to] save their companies money but pollute the air breathed by millions of Americans."

ProPublica@propublica.org · 5d ago

The Trump administration has granted more than 180 polluting facilities nationwide a two-year pause on compliance with Clean Air Act rules. All they had to do was send an email. (Published May)

"culture" is roaring back into vogue as the justification for neo-confederates, just as in the lead up to the Civil War. The slaver aristocracy in the 19th c portrayed themselves as a vertitable embodiment of Biblical culture (never mind which era) and paradoxically *also of classical Greece & Rome.

Adam Serwer@adamserwer.bsky.social · 4d ago

The immigrant union troops who defended their adopted country from slaver traitors are in fact, proof of concept of American higher ideals having nothing to do with “blood” or “heritage” or whatever cowardly euphemism is in vogue among these pathetic losers

No not always. Not back when it first came out; the publisher decided to hype it as revolutionary by having the public imagine she was the first woman ever to translate Homer. I recall at least one interview where EW fed that narrative w/ some unconvincing examples of how her version was gendered.

Something that never ceases to amuse me is when people talk about Emily Wilson's "feminist translation" of the Odyssey, a description that always seems to come as news to Emily Wilson, who simply translated it while female

I'd love it if a reporter in Rep. Emmer's or Rep. Rulli's district showed them how their own rhetoric about Somali and Haitian immigrants today is almost verbatim the rhetoric that an earlier generation of racist nativists spewed against their own German and Italian ancestors.

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social · last wk.

In recent weeks, congressmen like Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) and Rep. Michael Rulli (R-OH) have leveled racist attacks against immigrant communities in their districts. As I note in CAMPAIGN TRAILS, a century ago those same racist attacks were being made against people named Emmer and Rulli.
