The fact that no one in the mainstream press (or, more understandably, on the knives-out city council) seems to think SPD bears any culpability for inaccurate information SPD has put out and for SPD's actions on Sunday night is bonkers, and goes to show how differently this mayor is being treated.

Seven of the current city council seats are up for election next year. The council that is currently raging out about the mayor's decision to fire the police chief could have a very different composition in relatively short order.

The big problem with how Seattle Times has been frames the Barnes chief of police story is that being the big paper in town amplifies their version of the issue and it becomes the default version for the national audience. They’re very invested in it all being about Katie Wilson being a bad mayor

It’s become Ha Ha he got fired for being a remote worker cop. Not that he was a remote worker cop because he thought HE deserved to be. Not that he larded up the department with yes-men. Not that he was so hated that stories of behavior were instantly leaked
