Gopher librarian. Minne/apolis/sota. @thecurrent.org once used my “Coffee Break” suggestion.
I got an email today from the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association which explains why they choose the year 1874 as the est. of the Mill District. As I thought, it is tied to the construction of the first Washburn A mill, the first to produce 1,000 barrels of flour per day.
I find it interesting that 1874 was chosen as the year the Mill District was "established." 1874 is the year the Washburn A mill opened (the one that blew up), but there were 21 mills at the Falls before it including the 1866 Washburn "Big Mill." How was 1874 selected as the date?
I saw this card on a colleagues desk yesterday. The 1960s were clearly a different time.
284 no-hitters since 1901 34 “ultimate slams” (team down 3-0 wins on a slam) since 1910 22 perfect games since 1901 … always hoped I’d witness a no-no, got something much rarer.
Didn’t know there was such a thing as an “ultimate” grand slam. My state senator should throw out the first pitch more often. www.mlb.com/news/all-tim...
Across the state, Minnesotans tell me they are ready for Medicare for All – and they deserve it.
Regarding the Timberwolves broadcast news, I'm thrilled that FanDuel and Sinclair won't get any more of my money, but now I have to subscribe to a new streaming app and figure out how to pronounce DAZN. So, it is a mixed bag.
Two days ago I would have put money on Minneapolis having a mayoral sex scandal and St. Paul having a proposed data center and that's why I stay far away from prediction market sites
Hi everyone, if you are interested in reading about my experience in the Mascot Race at Target Field, here you go. Please remember that loons are faster in the water than they are on land, and I definitely I proved that last night. (photo by @freealonzo.bsky.social)
Suicide prevention fencing is finally going up at the U on the Washington Ave bridge over the Mississippi. It will hopefully be done by the start of Fall semester.
Last night after the Royce Lewis walkoff triple, the Twins played Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” as the post game victory song. You wouldn’t think that song would work, but it absolutely did. “How does it feel?!”
Watching Olivia Miles play basketball reminds me of how I used to feel watching Randy Moss; like we’re privileged to witness this level of sport.
FYI! For reasons unclear even to myself I have always wanted to run in the Mascot Race at Target Field. Well, tonight is the night! I will be running in the race at the end of the 4th inning. I have requested to be Louie the Loon. Dreams do come true! Wish me luck!
Got shut out on finding any moose up in the Superior National Forest over the weekend.. but I can confirm timberwolves are real! Caught this friendly guy about 2 miles south of BWCA. Superior National Forest in Minnesota, July 2026
My oldest needs eye surgery or in danger of going blind. Of course insurance won’t cover so he set up a GFM. If you can, any contribution will help. Shoot me a DM with ???

I'll be traveling to Seattle to see the Twins so the shop will only be open Monday-Wednesday this week. If you need to get a glove to us before then see the shop hours here. maps.app.goo.gl/fyuxXT9gLVzN...
Minnie and Paul. Note how I have cleverly hidden the monstrosity that is the Multi-Foods Tower behind the lit up sign.
Moss is growing behind my seat at Target Field. This is what the Twins have forced me to deal with after kicking me out of my seat behind home plate.
At the Twins game and I got kicked out of a seat behind home plate for the second time this season. I hope they aren’t starting to recognize me!
I have procured the baby blue Kirby Puckett jersey giveaway at Target Field. Pretty cool. Would anyone be willing to trade me a Native American “Mni Sota” jersey for this one?
Did the MyTwins autograph session this afternoon & Ryan Kreidler was one of the two players signing. Obviously I had to ask @snackeru.bsky.social’s question. He said it’s a large number of hats, not comically outsized hats. Didn’t know the number. “Thousands or hundreds?” “Not thousands.”
Again Twins, I’m going to need to see a number here. How can you tell us Kreidler’s hat collection is “massive” and not tell us the number? I’ll be the judge on whether it is massive or not!
