I have a few friends that are suddenly very invested in all this thanks to the World Cup and it's been a joy to both keep their hopes up and tamp them right down telling them no, the rats jumping ship do not signal a brighter future than the current one, and yes, them jumping ship is still good

It has made me feel very self-conscious because I'm not sure if I'm writing anything good or not. It has also robbed me of opportunities to grow out of bad habits because I don't even know if they are bad.
