I have a few friends that are suddenly very invested in all this thanks to the World Cup and it's been a joy to both keep their hopes up and tamp them right down telling them no, the rats jumping ship do not signal a brighter future than the current one, and yes, them jumping ship is still good

This guy worked with Infantino for a decade at UEFA, helped lead his 2016 campaign to become president of FIFA, was picked by him as FIFA COO, worked alongside him for the last two years and is now shocked, shocked to find out what he's up to

The race to the bottom of factory farming news-as-content has done some incalculable damage to editors and editing as a profession, with clear knock-on effects in the pipeline If you're a writer and you feel you have an editor that's giving you good advice, soak that in now

i'd be nowhere without incredible editors, and i tried to pass at least some of that benefit on, even when i was editing 20-40 pieces a day at a previous site. the erosion of editorial resources has made that kind of work rarer by the day, sadly. 🫠

I've very rarely had editors do any kind of editing of my work while in games media. It has made me feel very self-conscious because I'm not sure if I'm writing anything good or not. It has also robbed me of opportunities to grow out of bad habits because I don't even know if they are bad.
