This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.

Like, I've voted democrat for most of my life and it is only recently that there were viable candidates who did not need to toe the democratic line. Now that I have such a choice, why would I EVER vote for some neoliberal sack of shit who refuses to change the material conditions of my life? Why?
I think a good way to think about the current moment is understanding white supremacy as a spectrum with passive acceptance as the status quo out to actively arguing for global genocide.
White supremacy isn't just racism, it's also white people not introspectively evaluating their biases and assumptions about their own reactions to people in instances like that where it really counts. I will never forget that experience. 8/8

This is the core of American rot, in my opinion. Nobody wants to do the hard work of confronting power, so we reach for magic bullets. Then, predictably, entrenched power uses those tools to further entrench themselves.

We have hundreds/thousands of political prisoners in jail for protesting ICE and other trump initiatives. Same for data centers. A judge just handed down INSANE sentences for completely benign protest behavior. And media isn’t interested in what is clearly happening… bc they are aiding and abetting.
@redstateprof.bsky.social · 12h agoLet's all sit with the fact that the president wants to jail some random person who is self-evidently innocent. It's not surprising, but it's amazing that much of the media is almost completely disinterested in this fact.
I’m just saying, it is wild that polling orgs already massively shift their data to the right because everything UNEXPLAINABLY (but without fail) is way off that direction since we shifted to electronic ballots. But let’s blame polls and tell them to put their thumbs on the scales even more.

Furthermore, the Uncommitted movement took place during the PRIMARY in 2024. I voted in NY with a blank ballot to show that I wanted an alternative to Biden, because THAT'S DEMOCRACY. I also raised THOUSANDS of dollars and volunteered for many hours to try to beat Trump in the general.
one. Not time. Libraries should have the option of what they receive based on their needs. Prices can fluctuate depending on that. But buying 20 copies of something at a huge markup and then they expire? That's like the worst of all possible worlds.
I told a colleague recently that I am an abolitionist and she was like “But Aslynnnnnn You’ve met people who have ended others lives, you’ve sat at conference tables with murderers You’ve seen it You KNOW we need prison, you know we need cops” and like that’s how I know that we do NOT need them!
