So, what you're saying is you and your wife have a tempted murder?
@socraticme.bsky.social
Guy who hired you screaming at you for incompetence as you mewl that it was your subordinate's fault. Human centipede of guys who can't take responsibility for anything because that would be Showing Weakness
This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.
The couple’s arrest outside Midway Airport aligns with what immigration attorneys across the country have observed in recent months: an increase in ICE arrests at airports of people traveling domestically with expired visas but pending immigration cases. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/05/c...
Why “guardrails” talk is bullshit: It convinces you that the solution to THIS type of guy is to tighten up the rules, when the only response that consistently works with THIS type of guy is to ruin his day (longer) every time he says this. Consequences must be HUMAN for many, and especially him.
Q: What message does it send if Trump fires a U.S. attorney because she determined there was not sufficient evidence to charge four people with a crime? Blanche: He's allowed to do that
Like, I've voted democrat for most of my life and it is only recently that there were viable candidates who did not need to toe the democratic line. Now that I have such a choice, why would I EVER vote for some neoliberal sack of shit who refuses to change the material conditions of my life? Why?
I think a good way to think about the current moment is understanding white supremacy as a spectrum with passive acceptance as the status quo out to actively arguing for global genocide.
White supremacy isn't just racism, it's also white people not introspectively evaluating their biases and assumptions about their own reactions to people in instances like that where it really counts. I will never forget that experience. 8/8
Your little oopsie "mistakes" had me worrying for a year of my life about my partner going to jail for up to a decade based on lies likely fed to you by the top of the federal government. Show everyone what you're covering up in these emails and texts. There's a reason you don't want them released.

I genuinely cannot imagine being this fucking clueless. Then again, I have been surrounded by communities dominated by Walmart. WM has been proving boots theory true my whole damned life, starting with basketball shoes, which turn into your dailies when you are poor, IF they aren’t from Walmart.
regret to inform that he is somehow Still On This
Can't read it because I don't subscribe, but my gosh, this headline alone makes my whole morning! Thanks, @wsj.com, lol!
New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
I'm very tired of the guardrails metaphor, because it so often is where thought dies.
It’s not a guardrails problem but rather a fascism problem.
This is the core of American rot, in my opinion. Nobody wants to do the hard work of confronting power, so we reach for magic bullets. Then, predictably, entrenched power uses those tools to further entrench themselves.
El-Sayed: "They think they want to use my whole name against me. Mike, listen man, If you can't say the name -- it's Abdulrahman -- keep the name out your damn mouth."
We have hundreds/thousands of political prisoners in jail for protesting ICE and other trump initiatives. Same for data centers. A judge just handed down INSANE sentences for completely benign protest behavior. And media isn’t interested in what is clearly happening… bc they are aiding and abetting.
Let's all sit with the fact that the president wants to jail some random person who is self-evidently innocent. It's not surprising, but it's amazing that much of the media is almost completely disinterested in this fact.
I’m just saying, it is wild that polling orgs already massively shift their data to the right because everything UNEXPLAINABLY (but without fail) is way off that direction since we shifted to electronic ballots. But let’s blame polls and tell them to put their thumbs on the scales even more.
if nothing else another big night for the "polling in the no-one-picks-up-their-phone-anymore Era is cooked" take
Judge Wise finds that ICE coerced a 20-year-old Tongan man — admitted legally to the country three years ago — to sign a document accepting deportation, despite no criminal record or immigration proceedings against him. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
This is so good.
I cannot rest from discourse. I will see that film again tomorrow. I will drink life to the lees. Again I will enjoy greatly, will suffer greatly, both with those that love me, and in Pleasantville NY. I am become a meme. Film showing: burnsfilmcenter.org/booking/the-...
Furthermore, the Uncommitted movement took place during the PRIMARY in 2024. I voted in NY with a blank ballot to show that I wanted an alternative to Biden, because THAT'S DEMOCRACY. I also raised THOUSANDS of dollars and volunteered for many hours to try to beat Trump in the general.
one. Not time. Libraries should have the option of what they receive based on their needs. Prices can fluctuate depending on that. But buying 20 copies of something at a huge markup and then they expire? That's like the worst of all possible worlds.
I told a colleague recently that I am an abolitionist and she was like “But Aslynnnnnn You’ve met people who have ended others lives, you’ve sat at conference tables with murderers You’ve seen it You KNOW we need prison, you know we need cops” and like that’s how I know that we do NOT need them!
Been thinking about this in the context of education a lot. Right when the pandemic started I was trying to a long piece on the integration of segregation academies and how homeschooling and “travel ball” are related
the obsession with trans women in sports is, apart from the abject bigotry, a symptom of how we take amateur sports participation way too seriously in this country.
This is just full on wishcasting from the author. “I hate this thing so everyone else roes and Mamdani totally duped you into voting for it by telling you exactly what he wanted to do, you suckers who totally hate this thing bc I said so!”
And then there are paragraphs like this in there. What does this even MEAN. Are state-subsidized grocery stores full-fledged socialism? What part of the Constitution forbids state-subsidized grocery stores in the rest of the nation but allows them in New York?

That said, let us take a moment to thank our Bluesky Trans and Furry Elders for freaking out Jack Dorsey so much he bolted and left us this nice social media playground, taking most of his crypto chuds with him. We thank you for your service.
In my naïveté, I once thought that when a judge tells you not to do something and then you loudly and publicly announce that you are doing the thing anyway, people showed up to take you to jail. Now I know you get confirmed by the senate. This is begging for genuine revolution.

I'm just going to keep screaming this until I'm hoarse, but until Trump the norm -- for 50 years -- was that sitting presidents had their taxes audited by the IRS and released to the public to show they were clean. But Trump refused repeatedly, and sued when his return was leaked, and now ... this
FLAG: Trump gets to keep tax immunity for himself, his sons, and the Trump Organization under the new 'deal' struck by Todd Blanche. The new order also reaffirms that Trump won't have to pay any taxes he might have owed the IRS.
It’s super unserious to live to witness our pre-apocalyptic hellworld that went from being a boundless source of infinite sustenance to having a crumbling ecosystem only since the 3rd Industrial Revolution & fix your mouth to say that it is the socialists that are going to kill us all.
